Ooooh - SHOES.

Mine lived in their Saltwaters last year - see here Kate. They are waterproof and the leather lasted really well, they really were very comfy for the girls (or at least I didn't spot any red marks).

Alex & Alexa do free delivery and free returns, so I think it doesn't harm to order some and see what you think. I personally find shoe shopping avec children REALLY painful, although we are of course getting to the stage where if they see something and think they've chosen them themselves, they will actually deign to wear them.

Are the girls really that size though? Mine were wearing that size at 18months, and Juliet in particular is small for her age and with relatively small feet and is at age 2.5 wearing a size 23 (UK 6)... Hmm

ladymuckbeth · 23/05/2012 13:45

Just seen that the silver start at a 6 but the red ones start at a 4... here I like them because they're classic and cute... :)

KateShmate · 23/05/2012 14:04

Please say they come up small? I looovee the silver!
One problem here though - buckles. I know it sounds ridiculous, but when we're in a rush (pretty much every time we leave the house) having to do up 6 buckles might just kill me.
Honestly, they are that small, I had them fitted when I got DD1 and DD2's sandals the other day - although they have grown! E is a 4.5, but A and J are 5's. They really aren't big children, and have always just been small.
DD1 (nearly 6) is exactly the same - DD2 (4) has the same size feet as DD1 but they are wider. She's not abnormally big, but DD1 is just quite small.
Personally I didn't think it was that small - my niece is 3.7 and has size 7's, she's quite diddy but not tiny; so in comparison I don't think that DTri's are that small? Hmm

KateShmate · 23/05/2012 14:07

Oh well, Alex&Alexa do all of these in their size - so they can't be that freakishly small! Grin

AtLongLast · 23/05/2012 14:22

Haha. Mil is paranoid when she visits us. Possibly not without reason but she's sure she'll be mugged the second she steps outside and getting on a bus... well! Then again, with her stage whispers about the local accent, I wouldn't be surprised if she upset someone Grin. Went to softplay with her once & suggested she leave her handbag behind. Made total sense to her cos course it would be unsafe. Rather than just a pain if you leave your table unattended / playing etc. But then we had to have careful planning about where it would be safe in the house....

Ended up having a fun-packed day yesterday. Took bloody car to garage again. Really early so wouldn't have to drag all kiddies there. It was nice to be out early & I was thinking how I do actually quite like living here & all the positives. Then got home & discovered we've got a rat. Again. Gone off living here again now. Then came to do nursery run & discovered I'd left the buggy in the car - doh! So we did our first ever outing on foot with all 3 - and it was fine. Lovely actually. Got up from sofa last night & fell over & have twisted my ankle quite badly. Eejit. & then came down with the bug the others have all had this week. Hopefully feeling grotty will be the extent of it. Would be tempted to say I'm safely on the sofa resting my poorly ankle but given getting up was the cause of my pain yesterday I'm not sure..... Onwards & upwards & all that.

Ooh.. just spotted sandal chat but dd just woken..

Sorry Kate - didn't mean to imply that your girls had 'freakishly small' feet! Blush Mine are obviously clodhoppers - well, their mother wears a size 8 shoe so it's to be expected I guess... Grin

Totally understand re. the buckles. Speaking of which a friend's son was wearing Converse without laces the other day and I thought they looked really easy to put on/off... her son was managing it himself - they just have a velcro strip to secure them. I know they're not sandals though...

KateShmate · 23/05/2012 19:38

No its okay muck :) I know you weren't trying to say that - but believe me, they are that small. I'm a size 8 too, so I've no idea where they get it from! DTriplets have always stayed small since birth, so they are in proportion but just small for their age :)

Yep we got those converse in the same 3 colours. We couldn't track down the 3 different coloured ones in the right sizes so went for the same and just permanent markered a shape on the soul for each DT.

But they are just too hot for days like today!

ladymuckbeth · 24/05/2012 17:38

No these Converse were different - more like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?num=10&hl=en&biw=1421&bih=618&tbm=isch&tbnid=h6QhW_TMCtFZ4M:&imgrefurl=www.shoes.com/en-US/Product/EC1236212-5136494/Converse/Black/Kids%27%2BAll%2BStar%2BSlip%2BOx%2BTodd.aspx&docid=oaUBpSbuDsOJLM&imgurl=www.shoes.com/productimages/shoes_iaec1236296.jpg&w=350&h=350&ei=8WK-T46CHonU8gP6wLhM&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=416&vpy=128&dur=3276&hovh=224&hovw=224&tx=110&ty=123&sig=105550521792854460835&sqi=2&page=1&tbnh=133&tbnw=140&start=0&ndsp=24&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:0,i:74" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this which I always thought were just being worn without the laces, but actually there is a velcro strip down the centre of the shoe so it's really easy for the children to take on/off.

Have taken the plunge and ordered some of those silver Sun-Sans in a 6 and 7... hope the girls like them.

tartiflette · 24/05/2012 19:35

Right I want to buy Saltwater shoes but where the hell do you buy them from online? I see ALex & Alexa do Sun San is that the same brand? Do they have the same get-them-wet initiation rite as I fancied that.

Sorry to barge in, I imagine one day I might have something to say that does not involve shoes Grin

ladymuckbeth · 24/05/2012 19:56

Yes Saltwater are the same as Sun-San. I have no idea what the difference is or why the two names. Yes same water initiation rites Grin

Put Eve in a new pair today (well, a not-very-nice brown colour I bought for her last summer which were too big then) and even without the water stretching exercise there were no complaints, both were really happily dancing around in their shoes - thought there would be tantrums because I didn't want them wearing their Crocs. One thing about Crocs I'm realising is that their feet get VERY stinky, sweaty, and dirty. Vile.

ladymuckbeth · 24/05/2012 19:58

Here you go, a Sun-San lookbook

tartiflette · 24/05/2012 21:07

DROOL.
Thanks mucky have just ordered them a pair each of swimmer sandals. Love them.
Next, wetsuits.
And for those of you who've done beach holidays (prob everyone except me) is it worth getting those towelling wrappy things with arms such as I think Jojo do? (D'you know what I mean?) or are towels ok and not hassle on beach?

Clueless.

LURVED fil stories muck. Just couldn't make this stuff up. Chuckled at your mil too ALL although I think my Mum is a bit like that when she comes here too... How's your ankle?

KateShmate · 24/05/2012 21:12

Tarti I reckon those towelly things are good, but we've had the poncho type and the ones with sleeves - I cant remember which are best?
I think that if its really hot, then the ponchos are best as the sleeve ones can be really thick and will overheat them.

I suppose when I think about it, they are really pointless, but I have always felt the need to buy some. Hmm given me something else to look online for :)

I do love those silver sun sans, and I too love the idea of the water bit, but I think I would deeply regret the buckles!

ladymuckbeth · 24/05/2012 21:51

They're quite easy buckles, if that helps Kate?

tarti - I agree with Kate re. the towelling things. We had the stripy towelling type that you put over your head, with a hood. They were fine to get them dry initially, but after that too cumbersome. I mean, in hot weather would we want to wear one on a beach? Um, no. I do think it's useful to have something to cover them up easily - loose fitting kaftany type of thing? Not that I've found such an item yet. Glad you've ordered the sandals, hope you like them!

Had my first PT session today, it was BRUTAL. Went to the guy's gym in Shoreditch (am dead trendy, not) and was confronted by the sight of a woman dragging a tractor tyre across the forecourt, in 80 degree heat. I almost turned on my heels there and then. Now I just have that hideous ache which I know bodes badly - it's just about bearable now, but when I wake up I'm not sure I'll be able to move.

I have a hideously glamorous lunch next week at Petrus. I have no clothes, nothing, since I have gone up TWO sizes in the past 9 months. So depressing. Just been scanning ASOS for something that doesn't look like it would go up in flames if I stood on the wrong sort of carpet... Hmm

ladymuckbeth · 24/05/2012 21:52

Something like this ?

AtLongLast · 24/05/2012 22:42

Not done beach hols here either Tarti but we do have poncho with hood towel things for boys that we use for swimming. ILs bought them while on holiday cos they have dolphin on them. Must admit I thought `great, another thing to carry' when presented with them but the boys do like them & I suppose they are useful for keeping my towel a wee bit dryer.

Ankle is improving. Still v swollen and sore but at least not having to think about putting weight on it. Still don't even know how I managed to fall. Idiot that I am. At least dd found it hilarious Grin.

Haha, I was expecting glam-lunch fashion in that link LadyM! Petrus looks very glam! What did your gym guy have you do today if not tyre dragging? Is that something you work up to.. or a different programme?

Sorry to keep talking about 'girls' stuff here, but those of you with girls - what do you do to cover their nappy when your girls wear summer dresses? I keep buying shorts for the girls rather than skirts or dresses because unless I put a pair of white leggings underneath the dress (think I'd go through hundreds of pairs in a summer they get ruined so easily) I really don't like the 'look' of a big nappy poking out. Or is it just me? Hmm They're a bit old for bloomers, or are they?

LaVitaBellissima · 25/05/2012 14:37

Ladym I use these frilly knickers although the girls have got them very muddy lately with all these water games in the garden
Looking on with interest at the sandal conversation, I bought the Saltwaters from America 2 x pairs £43 but F and V are a size different and they don't fit yet, well the small pair meant for F fit V so I have a spare bigger pair to grow into but now need to get some more for F Hmm Really like this pair in the sale but sadly too big for my girls!
Very impressed about your PT sessions too, I'm eating better in this weather but can't stay off the booze Blush

tartiflette · 25/05/2012 14:39

I still bung mine in body-style vests muck unless it's BOILING. If it's really too hot for that, it's going to be too hot for leggings too really, although maybe just below the knee ones? Quite like the idea of bloomers actually although haven't seen any anywhere. Agree about unsightliness of a bulging nappy!

I'd missed the Petrus visit, somehow, was it lovely?

I need a bloody personal trainer. Not a hot one though, that would be upsetting... Actually I really just need a kick up the arse Grin
Ten days until swimsuit time... I know no one is going to give a toss at CP how I look but I will care Smile

ladymuckbeth · 26/05/2012 07:10

Yes yes, you're right - bodysuits it is. I have got some on order but somehow through winter we've been living in long-sleeved ones. And I'll have to go with short leggings if it's to go with a dress that has spaghetti straps. I love the bloomers LVB but only up to age 2. I think lots of clothes manufacturers assume your baby is out of nappies by age 2 - up to that age loads of dresses come with matching bloomers/knickers; not so much afterwards.

Gah, even the thought of potty training brings me out in hives. Dreading it so much.

LaVitaBellissima · 26/05/2012 13:57

No they have age 2-3 too just not in the correct order on the table Smile

Also Asda of all places, have fab sleeveless body suits and they are £3 for 3 pairs or some thing ridiculous like that.

re: potty training, I already dreading it and I have another year yet, really thing I need to turn the cupboard under the stairs into a downstairs loo, otherwise it will be a nightmare traipsing upstairs all the time. Don't have any money to do it at present but am tempted to get some quotes to have a kitchen extension so we can add a toilet and utility room.

Tooooo hot! Come in to watch a bit of Peppa Pig to get the girls out of the heat, back in the paddling pool in a bit!

ladymuckbeth · 26/05/2012 14:55

Yes, difference with us being that they're now 'at that age' where I'm getting occasional 'oh, are they still in nappies?' comments and I warn you now, it's bloody irritating!

KateShmate · 26/05/2012 20:46

muck when are your girls 3?
DTrips are 3 next month and still in nappies so we get the comments a lot too - esp from nursery.
Am hopefully going to tackle it in the half term

ladymuckbeth · 26/05/2012 20:59

Kate - three in December, so a way off yet. I'm getting nervous because I always said I'd tackle it this summer. Sooooo. The warm weather is here, and there's nary a pair of pants or trainer loo seat to be found in the house Wink It just feels like a Krypton Factor-esque challenge to get all the things we need which I know is an excuse because actually it can't be that hard. A member of staff at nursery said 'just forget pull ups, they're a waste of time; get loads of pairs of pants and a few pairs of tracky bottoms, wait for a long weekend and off you go.'

Hmm
AtLongLast · 26/05/2012 21:41

Right at the beginning of such girl-dressing dilemmas here! Dd was in her first proper summer dress yesterday & I did wonder about the nappy thing. Saw some of those frilly knicker things in Matalan (but yes, they only go to 2 too I think) but I felt a bit odd about prettying-up her bum. Over-thinking it I know. Going to go with bodysuits here too I think. Though we do have cloth nappy covers which I was thinking of using too.

Still hoping ds2 will potty train himself - making decent progress with wees. I think ds1 understands but is just lacking in confidence to give it a go. He's hugely territorial with the potty though. Really need to get around to buying a second not that that will solve the problem. Dp bought some pull-ups a while back. I hadn't realised they `velcro' like a nappy, and then you pull them up/down. Am hoping to get away without tracky bottoms though tracky bottom snob.

Dd slept 8-5.30am in her cot last night. I had the worst night sleep since she was a week old. Had to get up 4 times to check she was ok & had dreams of Bad Things in between. I think it's probably just the heat / exciting day yesterday though she did sleep in the cot for 3 hours this afternoon too! Both times she was on her tummy so maybe she's also found her preferred sleep position.
