Like some sort of film sequel, or a royal dynasty, welcome to Life with twins III, a thread for general discussions and sharing experiences of having (or expecting) twins.

Thanks everyone re playpens, may end up buying that Lindem one.
foxtails my boys just turned 8 months, they tried nearly all the weaning snacks but they haven't quite got the hang of finger foods yet, they bite too much off and gag so I have to crush it for them...
ALL one rolls about everywhere but his brother just lays there so hoping I won't need to buy the playpen just yet.
Feeling better today and the boys are playing happily as I type, gibbering away, usually its one stealing the other ones toys and not to mention the hair pulling!
Oh and they ate they're homemade carrot and broccoli dinner last night so I'm pleased about that.

Hope everyone else is well?

Sorry to dispense with niceties but need a bit of urgent input. Have any of you had trouble with naps, where one wakes first and in crying sets off the other one? Mine have done this a few times now - S is likely to wake after just 45 mins at lunchtime, which is bad enough if he won't then resettle, but he sets off R and when she cries it sets him off crying, so they just get into this recursive cry-cry thing where neither of them sleeps. And I can't settle them both simultaneously because of how their cots are arranged, so as soon as I get one calm the other begins wailing and it starts again.

I'm thinking I may have to put one of them in a travel cot in a different room at lunchtime because I can't have neither of them sleeping! And 45 mins just isn't long enough to feed myself, wash up lunch things, purée something, look at emails etc etc which is what I always promise myself. Humph. Not happy with this.

Foxtailsoup · 08/11/2011 13:34

RE lunchtime naps - mine are buggers at this, they need to sleep for at least an hour and a half now we've dropped the afternoon nap, or they're UNBEARABLE by teatime. Both tend to wake once or twice, and will wake each other (although that doesn't happen at night when one wakes, funnily enough). Only solution for me has been to separate them - DD is happier in her cot with the baby monitor on, and can be easily settled there if she stirs. DS is downstairs in buggy in the kitchen with me as he needs the jiggling motion to settle him if he wakes. It's not the most convenient arrangement in the world, but it works - I can jiggle the buggy with one hand and eat / read / type with the other... as I am doing now...

Thanks Foxtail and LL. It is an utter pain if they won't sleep at lunchtime - as you say, it makes the afternoons intolerable. S is not at all interested in dummies and doesn't even seem to go for his thumb when he wakes. But he was genuinely tired yesterday, just got locked into the crying cycle with his sister and so I had to separate them. Today I've got the travel cot set up downstairs so they'll be separate from the off. I think the difficulty of getting both quiet at once means this is the best solution. Like yours, Foxtail, mine don't seem to have this problem at night, thank goodness!

Yet more farking colds here, I can't believe it. We only had a week of both being well and now they're down again. Also I have a dodgy tummy this morning for some reason so hoping they can manage without continual attention today, and that this one is much quicker to get over than the last. It's not as if I've even been socialising with them so where the hell has it come from! I haven't seen my girlfriends in 4-5 weeks thanks to illness and holiday so feel quite fed up to be in quarantine again. Bollocking bollocks.

Oh.... with you on the illnesses! Our two have just got streaming colds again. I think poor dh had a bit of a rough night with ds1, though I was mostly oblivious. I got up at 5.30am with him today & he was a tearful mess and didn't want me... just dp Shock. Fimbles & some Calpol eventually sorted him enough to send to nursery. Dunno how I'm going to cope for the next 2 days when they're not in nursery - I've needed my slobbing time this week cos Braxtons are really making their presence felt & I'm not really up to pushing the buggy! Maybe a few circuits of the safari park are in order...

I def miss my long nap break these days when they don't happen but 45mins was a long nap here when they were young. Hopefully #3 will be a bit more amenable........

I'm sure I'd feel similar in your position re the tenants Lottie. Do you deal with them direct?

Right... madwife appt in 40mins & I've not even been showered yet!

Mumof1plustwins · 09/11/2011 10:59

Mine are always catching colds from their sister who catches it from her school! But now they get grumpy when ill whereas before they didn't mind much. Well have to get they're lunch before they kick off, fingers crossed they eat it! They ate last nights dinner (leek, carrot & onion) :)

Hope it all goes well LL I think a reduction in their rent is very fair. Feel bad for your Dh though who has to deliver the news!

Boys ate their lunch, and had some yoghurt afterwards :) A seems to refuse everything before he's even tried it but after he tasted the yoghurt he was happy to eat more Grin

Foxtailsoup · 09/11/2011 14:35

Ah, you can't beat yogurt, mumof1. Have you tried them on weetabix / oatibix with yogurt or fruit puree stirred in (and made with their formula milk)? That works for mine when nothing else takes their fancy. It's fascinating to watch them develop different tastes - DS loves all kinds of fish, can't get enough of it, DD pretty much voms just at the smell, she can't stand it. Just like her daddy...

LaVitaBellissima · 09/11/2011 14:35

Wow I can't keep up Smile

The girls celebated their first birthday last Friday, twas a lovely day Grin I can't believe I've survived a whole year!

Will post on naps/sleep etc later as it's a long story!

Still have my fingers crossed for you LL as I'm in love with the house too have already started planning the twins Summer meetup!

kittycatmum · 09/11/2011 15:58

im with you on illness. mine have another cold , god knows how. is it normal for them to get a lot of colds. Re solids mine are coming up to six months and not that interested, they will have a bit but prefer milk, should i be concerned.

AtLongLast · 09/11/2011 16:59

You don't have Shower Wallahs darn sarf then Lottie? Perhaps it is a northern thing... dunno Grin?

I spose when you're a tenant it is the sort of thing you half expect but hope won't happen & I don't think I'd be expecting the owners would be feeling bad. & it could be a lot worse than almost 3 months notice, especially if offered reduced rent. Not that any of that will make you feel any better when you have a conscience and you have built a good relationship with them.

Weetabix / yoghurt was a big fav here in the early days too mumof1/ Foxtail. They wouldn't have porridge for ages but love it now, especially with a little cinnamon in.... but have gone off weetabix. Yoghurt is an eternal fav here though. Lentil daal was a winner too & they both still love all types of beans. The boys also have v different tastes. Ds2 loves meat and sweet stuff while ds1 will pretty much eat anything but not a fan of meat. I've been rubbish on feeding them fish as I can't stand the stuff & the first few attempts weren't that successful. Ds2 is another who takes some persuading to try stuff - even if he's had it before & loved it. Ice cream is a good example. Had one early summer from a van & couldn't get enough. Bought one a few weeks back & he just kept saying noooo' and shaking his head. Once we got a bit past his lips, there was no stopping him & he was v disappointed when it was gone. We didn't give solids til 6months Kittycat & they've been fine. Do you have a plan' such as BLW or purees in place or are you playing it by ear? There seems to be more pressure to get solids in if going down the puree route ime.

Lavita

Midwife sent me for a scan today to check presentation as the heartbeat was v high up. Twas lovely to be able to ring dp to gloat about my chance to see baby (and the nice lady did say it is a lovely baby Hmm Confused). All OK.... head down & still engaged so still on for homebirth so far. It has it's hands (and feet!!) by it's head so it looks like another Superman entrance to the world is on the cards, just like both big brothers.... ouchy!

Mumof1plustwins · 09/11/2011 17:06

Aw that is so cute foxtail i think one of my boys prefer veg and the other meat! I'll have to try the weetabix mix because they don't really like it by itself (with milk) they do like cows milk though!

kittycatmum I wouldn't worry, just add a bit of baby rice to their usual milk and try spoon feed it to them, at first it's not about quantity just getting them used to eating. And remember to only try when they're not too hungry or tired. :)

Mumof1plustwins · 09/11/2011 17:15

That's great ALL when's your DD? You have so much going on! I on the other hand could not have any more kids, my DD (6 going on 16) drives me barmy and my adorable boys are a handful! Anymore and I'd be in trouble!
Do you know the sex? I didn't know any of mine till they were born.

Due date is Monday Mumof1 Shock. Still not sure I actually believe it's going to happen (though I have actually washed some babygrows & bought some nappies this week so maybe.... just need a cot now...)! I'm under instructions from my midwife to have it on my DD as she's on call that day & is overdue a homebirth. I'd like it if she could deliver it. & Monday day would sort of suit us as the boys will be in nursery.... though another couple of weeks slobbing would be equally good by me Grin. We don't know the sex - didn't find out with the boys either. We don't mind either way.... just everyone else is desperate for us to have a girl Hmm

Omg will you lot calm down I can't keep up Grin

ALL MONDAY??!?!?!?! How has this happened??? Bloody hell. Can't wait for the announcement...

What does your mum think Lottie?

AtLongLast · 09/11/2011 22:43

Yes, I know...... MONDAY Shock Shock Shock (though not for at least another couple of weeks yet in my head....)

`by prior negotiation' Lottie? So additional megabucks then. We had a vendor offer to sell us the new stair carpet they bought but hadn't yet laid in and the masses of chipboard alcove shelving in every room of our first house. The purple swirliness of the carpet put us off it somewhat.... and we hated the shelving so opted to let them have it for firewood & we just fill all the holes instead. Neither were a great loss to us to be fair but then the house was in a different league to the ones you're considering.....

How did dh get on?

My fault, I fear Tarti..... too much slobbing-on-the-lappy time must get back to some marking Grin

Aw it's all kicking off eh? Well it is here anyway!
Monday! We're your boys tricky at birth? Mine were, well A was, he was head down first and looked to be easy out but the little devil wouldn't engage and had his head turned! So turned into a long labour. So if this is a tricky labour my guess is it will be a boy! My FB was easy (a girl) :)

My boys are eating the bread off my sandwich...it's the only thing keeping them happy, I might trick A and dip his next bit in his baby food (that he's refusing to eat) Grin
