Like some sort of film sequel, or a royal dynasty, welcome to Life with twins III, a thread for general discussions and sharing experiences of having (or expecting) twins.

That dies seem abit odd, milk is good for them anyway.
Bear in mind HVs don't know everything and get it wrong sometimes.
I would go on instinct tbh, so long as they're not substituting their food for milk carry on.
My boys BF before every nap, sometimes they need it to calm down if grumpy too.

Wake up: quick 5min feed
Breakfast and if school day they sleep in the pram and only sometimes get another 2-5min feed before we leave house
If not school day they'll get a full feed soon after breakfast

Lunch then play then BF and nap

Dinner, play then BF and sleep

And BF throughout the night if they wake

They feed a bit more when there's no school because they don't sleep in the pram and we're indoors so they get grumpy quicker!

Hello ladies - we're still here, just been house of gruelling illness for last fortnight. Everything we have is covered in vomit. Confused

Back later with more disgusting details... Hope you're all well...

Mumof1plustwins · 11/03/2012 19:54

Hiya fox

I still can't get the smell of vomit out from one of the highchairs that they puked in 3weeks ago!!

PolkaDottedShoes · 11/03/2012 20:11

Hello fellow twin survivors mummies Grin

Mum mine have milk before a nap as well, think I am going to struggle when stopping this to be honest. Yes I do think it's a bit strange about my health visitor and milk- she has seemingly been encouraging me to wean them off for months Confused

Fox vomit doesn't sound good! How are you all now?

Mine are suddenly moving a lot more- more crawling, more standing up, more getting up to mischief together. I love seeing them play together though, and it was quite funny when DD was trying to climb on DS's back earlier like a horse. She then grabbed him and covered his face in big kisses which is a nice change from pulling his hair and making his cry Grin

Mumof1plustwins · 12/03/2012 12:27

Aww that is so cute! The boys always climb over eachother much to the annoyance of the other one! No kisses - just smacking and snatching! Boys will be boys eh Wink

Just do what YOU feel is right Polka, i cant see the use in taking milk away....what do you give them currently? Surely youd have to subsidise it with another milk like cow's milk [from 1yr+] (full fat) which is essential for brain development?? Confused

Foxtailsoup · 12/03/2012 14:38

Oh god, the sick. We will never EVER get the smell out of DD's mattress. Going to have to buy a new one I think (seriously). We've had two rounds of colds, chesty coughs and a vomiting bug that hit us all (plus DS on antibiotics for an infection in the thumb he sucks and rubs raw with his teeth)... But we seem to be on the up now, I hope... Both keeping food down, and had a little go on the baby swings in the park this morning. DH is off work but poorly also so we've had to draft in Granny to help out.

Polka, remind me how old yours are? Under a year seems early to be pushing you to cut their milk down, I think? Mine are just one and cutting down now / switching to cow's milk from formula. DS is right off it, but I think he'll come back round, he's just doing his Mummy, I'm A Big Boy Now thing. I've been worried about them eating so little while poorly, but they're picking up now. We've got Health Visitor check next week, be interesting to see what she says about their diet and development etc as we haven't been for months (she annoys me, tbh).

What is it with the riding around on each other's back thing? DS tries to do it to DD, but he's 25lb to her 19lb and he squashes her flat... I shouldn't laugh, but it is funny. They don't kiss each other, although they do sort of affectionately poke each other on the nose Hmm. They do kiss and cuddle us though, and sharing food by stuffing it in my mouth is a big favourite at the moment (mmm, squished up baked beans gone cold, my favourite).

Mumof1plustwins · 13/03/2012 11:06
Wink

Baby A hands his food to me sometimes too, he hardly ever let's go of it though so I'm pretty sure he doesn't actually want me to eat it!
Once baby G was holding a biscuit in the pram whilst I was waiting to pick up DD from school when he stuck his hand out (as if giving the biscuit away) and a little boy toddled up to him, looked at his outstretched hand + Biscuit and took it and walked to his mum to show her what he had Grin
Baby G looked like Hmm then Confused then a bit Sad

Had it of been baby A it would have been Sad all the way!

PolkaDottedShoes · 15/03/2012 10:36

My twins are just 10 months Fox

Having a nightmare with bedtime- we are now at the stage where it is a struggle to get them in and keep them in their cots before we go to bed (DD in particular, and she wakes DS in the process) They just really want to be in bed with us (Yes, this rod I have made is HUGE)

Argh. HV said about controlled crying, and doing it 'properly'... I just don't think I can. DH or I are having to go to bed early with them the past few nights as they would just cry and cry until in our bed

Mum how do you do it with yours, as you're still co-sleeping aren't you? DH doesn't want to do controlled crying either, but it's getting to the point where we have absolutely no time to ourselves as one of us has to go up to bed with them and the other stays up to housework and bottles!

Mumof1plustwins · 15/03/2012 15:02

polka you'll hate me for this but yes I'm still co sleeping and no I get no time with DH unless I sneak off but they sometimes wake! I'm afraid me time is on hold till I feel they're not reliant anymore on bfing
And baby A has bronchitus again and if there's no improvement tonight I'll be back to the dr to find out if he needs admitting to hospital Sad

Hope everyone else is ok

PolkaDottedShoes · 15/03/2012 15:47

oh no, really hope he doesn't need admitting, poor little thing Sad I hope he gets better soon x

Mumof1plustwins · 15/03/2012 19:05

polka there is another technique to try, I can't remember the name but instead of walking out the room like CC you stay with them and soothe them and gradually move away. I tried it but it was too time consuming so I can't but if you're desperate you could look it up on google and try?

Thanks btw, really hope he's on the mend tomorrow...

Mumof1plustwins · 16/03/2012 19:00

Well both boys are coughing but temperatures seem fine...hope none of them spike in the night.
I didn't take them to the dr because they seem ok, they play and are both eating so all good Smile

How's is everyone else?

PolkaDottedShoes · 17/03/2012 07:54

Glad they are doing ok, good sign with the eating and low temps! Smile

We went to a twins club this week, was lovely and the twins enjoyed themselves. Also went to a little playgroup which we will go back to, but also looking for more. I think it helps me to get out of the house now the weather is getting slightly better. I was hoping they would be tired out after yetserday, went to bed easily but then all hell broke loose with both of them screaming for me- unfortunately daddy suddenly wasn't good enough and it was a nightmare settling them and were on and off throughout the night- they have been teething again so gave meds but it is so hard when they just want mummy Sad they are very close to their dad as well but I suppose it's to be expected!

Mumof1plustwins · 17/03/2012 08:18

Well apart from baby A having a blocked nose and his brother going through the high temp stage were ok here.

Polka my two instantly crawl toward daddy and their whole body just says pick me up! It's his own fault, he's always picking them up! But as soon as they want milk they reach for me Smile

Well better try get them to nap...

Great you getting out btw!

Mumof1plustwins · 20/03/2012 16:23

It's even got cobwebs Hmm

I'm coughing and spluttering, DT1 is pretty much better, DT2 is miserable! Sad
