Twins measuring on the large side

I had a growth scan last week at 25 weeks pregnant and tw1 is estimated to be 861 grams and tw2 927 grams, whereas the average for this gestation stage is 660 grams. I am just a bit freaked out that I appear to be carrying two whoppers!! I know growth scans can be off but it is still worrysome that the babies are this big already. Anyone been through anything similar but did not go on to have big twin babies?
Many thanks

I know mine was only a singleton but at 35 weeks I was a little freaked out to say the least when I was told my DS was approx 9lb8oz already!! I was so worried!!

DS eventually arrived at 38+6weeks and weighed in at 7lb6oz - I was shocked again at him being so tiny when I was expecting an 11lb+++ baby!
Don't worry too much at this stage. I'm sure your DTs will level out before their arrival.

Good luck and congrats on the twins x

My twins were around 2lb each at that stage and ended up being 7lb each when born at 37 weeks so it's not as bad as it may seem.

Until 32 weeks pregnant it was looking like mine were going to be around 9lb each at 40 weeks if they continued growing at the rate they were.

This did not happen, their growth slowed right down and were 7lb 12 and 7lb 5 at 40 weeks.

I have heard lots of stories about growth charts being way off too.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone. My first child was 6lbs so I am hoping the twins are not any bigger than that tbh! Keeping my fingers crossed the growth scan was off!!

I can't remember what my 2 weighed at 25 weeks, but I know that DT1 was always on 90th centile & DT2 between 75th and 90th.

They weighed 7lb 2oz & 6lb 15oz when they were born at 37weeks.

I have read that twins put on lots of weight in 2nd trimester (probably Nature's way of preparing them for a possible early birth) & don't gain as much as singletons do in 3rd trimester. So, your babies rate of growth is likely to slow down over the next few weeks.

Congratulations, BTW & enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. Twins are just fab; you'll love it!

I've no idea about how weight at 25 weeks relates to birth weight, but my last scan was at 25+6 and they're 868g and 869g, so similar weights to yours. I'm glad they're growing well, but like you, a bit daunted by the thought of whoppers Smile. My grandma never missed an opportunity to tell us she had 3 babies weighing 10lb - I don't manage a day without hearing her say it in my head ...

Interesting thread as my first (singleton) came in at nearly 10lbs and in telling my midwife this she's written it down and said she wants to watch that as the twins may be big babies too. I'm hoping the 'twin co-ordinator' is a little more helpful in advice then the midwife is.

Thanks all. Am now 32 weeks & tw1 estimated to be just over 2kg & tw2 just under 2kg, so they do seem to have slowed down. Not too much longer to go, hope you are all doing well :)
