New Disney Princess

I've recently learned that there's been some controversy over the upcoming first black Disney Princess. Apparently a lot of complaints are being made as in the film she marries a white man. I think that it is fine for children to learn that people are all the same and that you don't have to be the same race as someone to fall in love with them. Maybe they'll have a child and in the sequel there'll be the first mixed race Disney Princess? How do people feel about Disney's 'controversial' decision?

I think it would be a great idea.

After all there are black princess's in this world!

I remember a couple of years ago they announced that they were going to make the Frog Princess and that she was going to be black and there was an uproar about that because the frog princess is selfish and generally not that nice.

The yanks are still not that keen in mixed race marriages.

Is the fuss from the Afro-American community because the black princess doesn't marry a black man, or from the white community because there is a black princess at all?

I read that its from the African American community, I'm not too sure what their problem is with inter racial marriages? The film is being released soon though. Its great that they'll finally have a black princess, especially for fancy dress purposes!

here it is.

I have asked my MIL who lives in New York. She says that Disney have released some stills from the movie which is coming out this time last year. Some of the press have been saying that the prince looks more white than black in these stills. He is voiced by a Brazilian.

She says that it is all a bit of a non-story as they don't even know how light or dark he is as you can't tell. The controversy has stemmed from the fact that there is no black prince/role model for the black boys - not that mixed race luuurve is wrong.

I saw the picture and read about the controversy in More magazine, did anyone see it? He looked like a blonde white man if i remember rightly. I understand why there is a problem that there is no black prince role model for the boys but there has ALWAYS been no black prince. I suppose that the creation of a black princess has brought this to people's attention.
