Moving to Gillingham

Hello everyone, we have bought a house in Gillingham, Kent and are excited to move next week..I was looking at the roads and found out one of my neighbours is flying a confederate flag…I’m in shock and a bit worried, we are a black family, just a bit worried, is Gillingham diverse? Thank you.

OP I hope someone comes along and has more encouraging things to say, but in my opinion Gillingham is quite a racist area, v. white British vibe. Whereabouts are you from and what made you move there?

Gillingham is awful. Really run down town centre.

I saw diversity when I came to visit, but now with the confederate flag I have seen I am not so sure…

What’s a confederate flag? Is it an England flag for the Euros?

Maybe move this to chat or the property thread because I don't want you to be worried - as you say you saw the diversity when you visited. I hope others can come on and give other opinions but maybe this isn't the right thread as it's not very active? Was there a specific reason you chose Gillingham?

Gillingham isn't the most progressive, no. But struggle to see why they'd flying a confederate flag.

Yes, we could not afford to buy a property in London,so Gillingham was the best option, I’m maybe worrying too much, I am a very anxious person 🥹🥹
