I worked for a nursing home, I was a carer working full time, i have given notice, because of many reasons, lack of staff and neglect of residents, lack of paid breaks. I had hurt my back and was stressed, I found alternative employment, despite years working as a carer, They employ young people and others from other countries, most recently, I worked with a philliphino , she was as I was, working 12 hours shifts , she had no risk assessment for her pregnancy, she was not allowed time off for medical reasons due to normal pregnancy hospital appointments, I swapped shifts with her every time she has needed a scan, she is over middle aged and has had medical appointments which she was told to swap her shift or be disciplined, I could not swap a shift and she had been called in for a disciplinary...

They are taking advantage, as she said to me; she doesn't know the laws, she should be paid time off for her appointments, works so hard, it is absolutely disgusting, have looked up her rights but it seems she would have to fight herself, when you are pregnant you should be protected!

Any advice would be so much appreciated, i am thinking about reporting the home to the (nursing home for the elderly) to the cqc, but they are already abusing the elderly, and the staff, you get places like this and they cover their tracks.. however it is disgusting that a person will pay x amount to stay in a home, yet have people working 12 hours shift with no breaks and lack of staff so their health is at risk..

If it was known to that elderly people are treated like a production line with 2 carers to 16 vulnerable people, no time with them for anything let alone or a bath or shower.. I need to report this, however it can be proved by the home as having enough staff... it's really not.. it makes me so angry

Unfortunately, I doubt I will get any advice since netmums is full of middle class white wonen, who won't have any interest in a post about inequality of women from other countries living in the uk.....

Hi there, I'm not a middle class white woman - Im Asian. Sounds terrible and they're clearly exploiting. Is she working here legally? Does she have papers in order? If not that could be one of the reasons they're taking advantage.
I'm no legal expert but she could reach out to an employment lawyer for advise (initial consultations can be free), perhaps citizens advice? She needs to document how she's been treated - any emails etc so that she can build a case.

She could reach out to media outlets too if she'd like to get her story out. (I have a media background and can vouch that it's something that will get attention).

Hi OP, you're colleague could also try pregnantthenscrewed.com.

I also think you may get limited responses because you've posted on the multicultural families board in the middle of the night. You could ask @Mumsnet to move this thread to the work board 😉

Or to legal. If you report your own post you can ask it to be moved.

Do you know what sort of contract she has?
