Any British woman divorced from Moroccans?

I'm a British woman, single mum to a dc (half Moroccan). My husband became abusive soon after dc's birth. I left the first time he raised his hand to me.
Dc is now 6 and is becoming aware that they're "meant" to have a daddy. Asks where he is (back in Morocco) and why dc is browner skinned than me. Dc isn't particularly dark, more of an olive complexion but the difference shows as I'm quite pale..
Just wondering if anyone here has been in a similar situation and how do you answer these kind of questions.
Also, how can I best educate dc about Moroccan side of their heritage. My family say things like "dc looks white" or "dc blends in ok" but its important to me that dc knows about their origins and why father is no longer around. Father was so abusive that the divorce wasn't amicable and we have no contact. Court orders in place to prevent dc being abducted to Morocco.
