I'm assuming your half brother is still a child?

Unless there is a medical reason for the operation, you will probably need to go privately. Your GP should be able to help.

There's a scheme in Birmingham where babies are done on the NHS for cultural rather than medical reasons - I saw some leaflets at the hosp, but have no contact details. Try contacting Birmingham Children's Hospital - they should be able to give you the details

Naomi77 · 22/02/2007 18:43

I had my 22 month old boy done three weeks ago and he is fine now. Would you like the details. The clinic is near Heathrow.

Snowi · 28/02/2007 16:58

Hi Naomi77. Am expecting a boy & dh wants him circumcised for hygiene reasons, could you give me the details for the place near Heathrow as I live nearby. Thanks

vikinggirl · 05/03/2007 21:55

Snowi please please please don't circumcise your son for 'hygiene reasons' - it simply isn't necessary any more than it's necessary for you to have your genital lips amputated because smegma sometimes collects there. Once the foreskin separates naturally from the glans - which may not be until the late teens - soap and water are a perfectly adequate way to keep it clean.

Mother nature put a lot of effort into developing the foreskin - she gave it anti-virals and anti bacterials for health protection and 20,000 nerve endings for pleasure. Your son doesn't deserve to lose a key part of his genitals because of superstition.

Snowi · 19/03/2007 12:18

Thanks but I think that's our decision to make. Naomi77, do you have the details for that place near Heathrow?

MadameWeb · 19/03/2007 12:20

why are you having it done?

Bubble99 · 19/03/2007 12:26

Snowi and softmusk. I have the 'phone number of an NHS surgeon who performs private circumcision using local anaesthetic. He is based in SW London.

An older child will need a general anaethetic. There are two hospitals that I know of that carry out circumcision under GA. Minimum age for GA there is 3 months.

Snowi · 19/03/2007 16:17

Bubble99, could you give me the details for if & when we decide to have it done? I'll greatly appreciate it. Such a contentious issue isn't it?

Bubble99 · 19/03/2007 20:58

Snowi. CAT me and I'll give you the info.
