Hello everyone,

I live in Stevenage, Hertfordshire but work in London. I have 3 children, Stephanie who will be 13 very soon, Shane who is 3yr 8mths and Sheryl who is 21 months.

You will find that I leave messages at all sort of times cos I spend too much time on the net.

mellowchristmas · 12/12/2006 09:09

Morning all,

I'm trying to encourage people to be greener so I've started a green living blog. I've just posted some energy saving ideas for cooking on my blog. Do you have any to share? My blog's here. .

I've also started a thread to collect eco-tips from MNetters for my blog. Please post any other tips you might have here.

wyls · 12/12/2006 14:55

Hiya, i dont think i have any tips apart from cook everything in 1 pot? Does that save energy?

I ususally cook everything in my mircrowave rice cooker whenever possible. It's like a steamer really. I cant live without it.

Snowmum, is your DS talking much now? My Ds said noodle the other day which was so funny.

Speak to you all soon

wyls

Found you! Pity about the failed meet up on 5th Dec and thanks again Mellow for calling me and letting me know. My broadband will be back next week (hurrah!) have been without it since 27th Nov (very long saga). Nagged DH to dig out our old dial up modem for use in the meantime. Its been a real hassle but on the positive side it has pushed me to get out of the house and I have now completed my xmas shopping!

I would be up for a meet up between christmas and new year if others are. DH will be working so I will have to bring DD along however I think the tubes and trains tend to be quite empty so it should be relatively easy.

Wyls, my DD says a few words but hasn't yet started to put words together yet. Not sure if its becoz I speak to her in a mixture of cantonese and english. Her fave word is "bao bao".

mellowchristmas · 13/12/2006 08:29

Snowmum,

Glad to have you back! My sympathies on not having broadband. It's a pain when that happens.

trying2bgood · 13/12/2006 20:39

snow - very jealous, I still have a long way to go with the xmas shopping

hi everyone .... have to confess that i've completed all my xmas shopping as well - and i even managed to get some champers for dd1's nursery and some xmas cards out on time. feeling very organised this year - i'm sure its pregnancy hormones and the 'nesting' instincts kicking in.

dd2's sleeping is still driving us up the wall. its been a couple of weeks now and we're VERY tired of it!! but going to try and hold off following a structured approach until the xmas period so that DH can help - hopefully we'll be more committed.

so for those of us that have 2 kids, can i ask if they look alike??? DD1 has very fair skin, and is tall for her age, whilst DD2 is darker (more my skin colour) and is petite for her age. u cant really tell they are sisters. My family find this a huge source of amusement and have made some strange comments (dad said 'people must think u r the nanny when out and about') which was quite hurtful .... does anyone else get the similiar comments ??

When I went back to HK to visit my parents years ago, some people actually thought I was the maid cos I can go very dark in the sun. People couldnt believe that my employer would let me go swimming and sun bathing at the resident's pool all day!!! It was just so funny.

Anyway, I am almost done with my christmas shopping, I think Jamie Oliver's new cook book is the theme for christmas presnets this year. I still have a few bits to get and I am hoping to do that next Tues when I am in London. Very brave, I know.

lilmissnoodles · 14/12/2006 23:40

hi all
i live in shropshire, moved here last year so dont really know many ppl.
Momonthe run - do you have chinese channel? i would download programmes from net but my pc is too slow.
I have bought a few of kids cds thats in cantonese, but he gets bored after 10 mins of it.
Speaking of nannys, my cousin found a nanny when she was in HK and brought her over to uk, with working visa. 3 years on and she still her nanny.

MomOnTheRun · 15/12/2006 02:09

Lily I don't have chinese channel, but I normally leave my PC on at night downloading. Cartoons are normally slow because there aren't that many seeds. The latest chinese soaps are pretty quick. They are normally in a real media format which you need to decode to burn onto disk. If you need anything I'll try and tell you as much as I can. I've been through a lot of hassle to stop my to find an appropriate solution.

On the microwave cooking, I don't really agree on using it. I have one at home, but generally just use to re-heat food for DH and my own consumption. Would avoid using it for the children whenever possible becase the nutrients are destroyed by the waves. See \link{http://www.mercola.com/article/microwave/hazards.htm}.
