Alternatives to cocoa butter?

DS is mixed black african and white and has very dry skin which looks dusty by the end of the day.

I don't like the smell of cocoa butter but kid's dry skin lotion doesn't seem to work well enough. Anyone got any alternatives?

Also any ideas about how to get the cream on him and not all over me, the walls and furniture would be appreciated!

coconut oil. my 3 kids are mixed white british and black carribean and one of my kids has eczma and coconut oil works wonders, it sort of melts inyour hands, may seem wet/oily looking at first but it does dry into the skin leaving it smoothe and soft. you can get a small jar at superdrug for around 2 pounds or order offline. i got a giant tub prescribed by the doctor x

Nivea lotion is quite good for dry skin...the one in the dark blue bottle

Shea butter
Carrot oil jojoba oil
Mango butter
Body shop body butter work really well but are expensive

You can also get coconut oil in any black hair shop

Or you can use Vaseline you can get big tubs from the black hair shop or even the £1 shop

Thanks - I've got some coconut oil to try tonight. It might be less messy as it seems solid in the jar

coconut oil (pure coconut oil normally gellifies in cold weather, so run under warm water if applying as below)

Liquid oils really work best applied on damp skin straight out of the shower.Locks in the moisture.

also try and simply use a glycerin soap bar rather than shower gel as they smell good but are quite harsh on skin.

i know i said coconut oil (because it is great) but have you tried argan oil? you can get a bottle off amazon for like 15 pounds. my mum gave me some brazilian and morrocan oil for my daughters hair and o m g it is wonderful! i dont just use it on her hair , i use it on hers and her brothers skin too because its for hair skin and nails. it dries quickly and its made my sons eczma diappear. im definantly going to kepp purchasing this. the ones my mum gave me are like 30 pounds a bottle so bit too pricey but like i said amazon are doing argan oil which is basically the same for cheaper and it has great reveiews. p.s its also ok for combination skin which is what i have

I tried the coconut oil and it seems to work well. I think the main problem is getting the cream/oil whatever on him.

DS is 3 and very wriggly when wet. He either won't let me near him, or wants to "help" and the oil gets on everything else except him!

I use jojoba oil on the skin after bath. it seems greasy but absorbs in minutes!
