where is blossom?

Pam70 · 08/11/2005 12:16

csa - can you give me a brief synopsis of it? Trust you if you say it's not that good - was just curious since I found the baby one an absolute lifesaver.

DD is at toddling stage now with a great fondness for putting her hand down the toilet to do a bit of exploring.... blerrgghhhh

csa · 08/11/2005 12:34

LOL pam. ds1 (3.5yo) has developed an obsession with the toilet brush. wants to "clean" the loo everytime he goes. hope this phase goes away soon.

as for the book, it is more of a reference book for different toddler/preschool issues and suggestions on how to deal with them (e.g. sleep, feeding, tantrums, hair washing, sibling rivalry, nose-picking, etc.) there is also a section on potty training. it's good in bits but not like the contented baby book which i found to be a lifesaver too [ducking head down in case there are any anti-gfs on this thread]
i pick this one up at times where i reach a stumbling block and trying to look for suggestions on how to solve problems.

Pam70 · 09/11/2005 10:55

Don't stop him from using the toilet brush - just think you could train him now and save yourself a fortune on cleaners!! Maybe try him with a duster in the living room next?

csa · 09/11/2005 12:54

oh, he already does that. he also has a toy dyson which he goes round the house with. actually, when he was about 15 months, he went through a phase of going round cleaning all the surfaces in the house with a cloth! alas, i think novelty will wear off soon enough and cleaning will have to be bribed

Pam70 · 09/11/2005 16:48

Where's everyone else gone? Are you all too busy cooking, steaming, pureeing and freezing vast quantities of fruit and veg?

Pam70 · 09/11/2005 16:50

csa - there was a thread earlier about the Chinese community in Britain - on the Chat forum - go and have a look.

When're you due back at work again?

wyls · 09/11/2005 20:22

Ha ha i am here. I only get to come on at about 8pm in the evening when my ds is asleep. Had a busy day today, i had all the girls round from my parentcraft group. We started at 1030am and didnt finish until 430pm!!! It was fun though.

But my ds was playing up after everyone has gone, bless!!!

I am going to have a look at that forum now.

Well said pam. I like your comments. What a bunch of funny people. I mean I dont really see the point of the thread in the first place? Do you?

I also like your joke, that was me when i was younger. I used to crap myself if i dont get 100% in my test. That's so true!!!

ok just to liven up things around here, I'm going to ask this, the majority of us on this thread are married to non- Chinese men, why?

My reason is that I met my DH at university and the uni I went to was a bit sparse on the ground with Chinese male talent. The ones I met there just didn't take my fancy at all. I suppose I could have met someone else after uni when I returned to Malaysia but DH (who wasn't H) then came out to Malaysia and put a stop to that!

I put on the other thread that some of the Chinese men that I met while I was a student (and after) were a bit of a turn off as they couldn't seem to talk about anything else other than how much money they made or how much they had spent on a night out. Anyone else found this?

csa · 10/11/2005 12:46

how very romantic pam

hmm. good question. why a non-chinese? dunno really. don't think the race thing was an issue, rather the type of person and values. if i had met a chinese with the same personality as my dh, then maybe.... but your are quite right about the money thing pam. not all chinese blokes but a lot of them are like that. but then don't think it is a sex issue either. a lot of chinese girls are like that too

Pam70 · 10/11/2005 15:30

Now that you've mentioned it csa, I do know quite a few Chinese girls who are married to Chinese men (in Malaysia) who are quite like that. The ones who rotate their diamond encrusted designer watches to suit their (equally designer) outfit!

BTW my cousin sent me a blog called (I think) The Datin's Diaries written by some second wife Datin worried that her rich Datuk would stray - quite funny - have you heard of it? (oh how FAR REMOVED my existance is from the designer clad, shopping mall trawling Datin and her friends!!!)

twiglette · 10/11/2005 16:48

hi! i am new to this so forgive me. i am hk born chinese married to a malaysian born chinese with a usually very contented 8 month old ds (teething just now).

made the mistake of allowing my mum and m.i.l. over during 1st month. now it's like WWIII between them, but at least they are no longer under my roof.

about those sweet potatoes, i am even lazier! prick with a fork, microwave for 5 minutes or so, cut in half and scoop out flesh with a spoon. should be easy to mash with a fork adding a bit of ebm or formula +/- butter. yum!

twiglette · 10/11/2005 16:49

oh by the way, we work for the nhs so are most definitely not dripping with diamonds!

Pam70 · 10/11/2005 16:49

Hi Twiglette - you invited your mum and MIL to stay at the SAME time???????????? Brave you are!

Pam70 · 10/11/2005 16:51

Twiglette - not unless you're married to that socialite who keeps appearing in the Tatler (I swear I only read the social pages when I'm at the hairdressers!) or whathisface David Tang?

twiglette · 10/11/2005 16:57

i didnt invite them. they took advantage of the fact that i was post-cs and breastfeeding...so basically bed bound. i hid in my room lots!

JoolsToo · 10/11/2005 16:58

are you Twiglett or a different twiglette?

JoolsToo · 10/11/2005 16:58

should have read further down obviously you're not Twiglett sorry!

twiglette · 10/11/2005 17:30

Can i ask if any of you were subject to all those chinese taboos while you were pregnant? hard enough to have all those 'don'ts' for modern health and medical reasons, without both grandmas adding there superstitions and traditions. well my excuse for our garden being a tip is that we werent allowed to cut anything this year. not sure what my excuse is for previous years.

SnowMum · 10/11/2005 19:43

Have finally finished the last batch of purees and now have freezer full of baby food!

Csa - I actually have the Babycooker (I am lover of kitchen gadgets) and was planning to use it when DD gets to eating meals and for defrosting/reheating. So far I have been making large quantities of single batch purees as per Gina's suggestion. Been fun peeling 5kgs of fruit and veg!

Pam, my DH is chinese! He's a BBC like me from HK. I have to admit that most of the guys I dated in my previous life weren't chinese and to be honest I didn't think I would end up with a chinese bloke. I have to agree that the general comments that most chinese guys are very money/materialistically orientated.

Welcome to JoolsToo and Twiglette - with regard to chinese taboos, I was certainly bombarded with them whilst pregnant from my mum and my MIL. Usual stuff, not supposed to over exert yourself, lift anything lighter than a feather, think nice thoughts all the time, not say anything horrible in case it affects baby, avoid eating bananas and lamb. The best one was from my MIL, we were having a steamboat dinner (chinese fondue) and I was just about to tuck into a bowl of vermicelli noodles when she told me that eating these very thin noodles was dangerous as they could get into the baby's throat and choke them!!

wyls · 10/11/2005 19:49

I just dont find any chinese blokes good looking or attractive.

Anyway, i met my DH at school and at the time there were like 2 chinese boys in the whole school and one of them was my brother and the other one is half chinese and half english anyway.
