Child tax credit underpayment

I have recently received notification that I was underpaid by quite a considerable amount for 2009/10. I've tried to contact the Helpline, but it's always been busy. It seems a bit too good to be true. I knew I had been underpaid slightly, but not by this much.

Does anybody know how underpayments are paid? Will it suddenly appear in my bank account one day? If so, how long is it likely to take?

i just phoned them and got straight through - give it another go quick!!

watch your bank account as i have had amounts suddenly appear. Also check they have got the correct details of everything as they can get it so very very wrong.

(I told them i was on £14,000.00 per year and they typed in £1,400.00 - how rubbish are they!!)

When this happened to us the money went into the bank the same day that we received the notification. Have you checked your account?

Enjoy the extra pennies.

I have too had a letter to say I will be receiving nearly £4000 in underpayment. They have off set my husbands self employment loss against my income, then wrote to me to say I had given them the wrong income amount. Apparently they are checking against the PAYE system for employment income, so the system thinks I have given them the wrong amount. I had to write to somebody to chase up my repayment, even though it is their system that has messed up. Six weeks later i am still waiting for my underpayment. the tas credits helpline is so busy that I just get cut off when I call. it is disgusting that they cannot sort things out quicker. Low income families need this money to survive.
