claiming CTC for first time

Hi there,

we have never claimed any sort of benefits before as we did not realise we were entitled to some help.

I telephoned the CTC people back in march for a claim pack which they sent out apr 08 -mar 09. I have only just got the correct figures in from our accountant for that year, however we have now entered a new tax year so is it still worth sending in the old form?
The accountant now has the books for year apr 09 - mar 10 so hopefully should have the figures in a few weeks so should i just hold on for them?

Also i was on maternity leave for the best part of both years so the £123 of smp i received am i right in thinking i only need to declare £23 of it?

Hope this is clear enough, i have tried calling the office but i am getting a little peeved at being on hold for over an hour!

Thanks

Have you checked on their website?

they are busy as it is the begining of the tax year when they re-do most of their claims

you should put in for the previous tax year aswell as this tax year

As it is the new tax year you would put the amount you made before tax for 09-10. You also take off £100 for every week you were on SMP during that tax year.

Once you get your claim through, you then call them up and tell them your expected income for this tax year (if diferent to the last one)
