When do you normally get the reminder to tax your car?

Car tax is due at the end of the month and I'm sure I've normally had the reminder quite early on in the month.

I know it is possible to tax it at the post office with all the documents but is easier to do it online with the reference number in the letter. Am hoping it arrives soon and I can do it (am moving house soon and everything is in various places, not all known to me).

As an aside it would be good if you could pay by direct debit wouldn't it?

Mine came within the two weeks before my disk expired. They are cutting it quite fine these days IME.

Thanks - normally it seems to arrive early and then I lose it put it somewhere safe

I do wonder why direct debits can't happen. I suppose with people buying and selling cars it could get complicated.

They are supposed to send them out 2 weeks before tax runs out

Mine runs out at the end of this month and I've had the reminder for about a week

mine also due end of the month, think the reminder came thu or fri. I did it online and new disc came on tue.

can't you do it online without the ref?
