We have a one-off of £275 to put in a bank account for our 1 year old... we won't be topping it up with any extra money. Where should we put it? Tried to open a few accounts and been told they're not suitable for children...

abbey is a realy good 1 got 250 quid in july to put in a trust fund never topped up and made 30 quid by december not alot but it helps children as they get older.

Have you looked at National Savings & Investments? I have opened accounts for children through them before - when doing probate work.

I've looked - thanks - they're not bad... 2.5% Prob going to go with Halifax Regular Saver and just add £10 from our own money - its 6%!! Pretty good I reckon!

Sorry for anyone else also looking - You have to add £10 a month min to qualify for the 6% rate that is.. there are some stiff conditions as well...like no missed months/withdrawls/etcetc

i didn't think abbey had a trust fund anymore and that it was swapped to family investments?

confusedmummie · 10/05/2010 12:02

yeah its a link from family investments it is actually abbey i think and hope lol

wow, that Halifax account looks good. Kids already have a saving account with them but pretty sure they get no where near that amount of interest.
