how to find an IFA?

I would like some advice on investments but am a bit unsure of how to find a good IFA (who I also trust - don't want to take risks with my cash but know I need to make it work harder for me).

Any tips or recommendations would be gratefully received!

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I met Mark Cooper at a networking event recently. His company is Clarity Financial Planning Ltd, for independent financial advice. He seemed genuine about advice and fees.

If you are looking a for a local IFA, contact The Whitechurch Network in Bristol who should be able to give you a local IFA. They are an IFA network. (Tel 0117 3730440)
Ask if they can recomend an IFA near you.

The best way to find an IFA is by personal recommendation.
That said, make sure they really ARE independent - many people pretend to be but are not.
There are two main ways to find IFAs - through www.unbiased.co.uk which will give you a selection of local IFAs and www.FindaPro.co.uk which will show IFAs in order of their distance from your home postcode (or work if you prefer).

Once you have spoken to a few and found one who takes the time to understand you, make sure you consult them on a regular basis - when I was an IFA far too many clients made unwise choices being sold things by banks and estate agents which did not fit properly with their overall financial planning. Banks etc are salespeople, NOT advisers!
