Going on monday with dh who is signing on. They will also be going through what we will be entitled to with us. What do I need to take with us?
Do I need to take details of tax credits, council tax etc?

coke - they are more.- i do lots of overtime if its there.

plum100 · 21/03/2010 08:58

We dont claim as a couple though - I know you can get it if you work that less then 16 hrs a week, but im not actively looking for another job, plus I'm 6 mths pregnant, I dont hink it wuold be right for me to claim really.

Can you claim for jsa ib while still on jsa cb then? I thought you had to spend the first 6 mths on it. See they don ttell you this stuff do they?

onadietcokebreak · 21/03/2010 09:42

You can only claim JSA IB if your partner works less than 24hrs per week. it goes on the couples income and circs.

They would take your earnings into account and if its more you wont be entitled.

At the 13wk mortagage qualifying date he can claim income based to look for help with mortgage. However your earnings would be taken into account.

Will you be receiving any maternity pay?

bronze · 21/03/2010 09:55

ok now I'm confused again

I don't work
DH has worked for over 10 years
we will have less that 5 k in savings (what we will have is his last pay plus the pittance of a redundancy pay but this just about bring our joint account into the black- still less than 5k though)
We have a mortgage but our insurance covers all but £75 (teach me to remember to update things)

dh has just applied for CBJSA online yesterday
and I've started sort out the requirements for the council tax stuff
I have also phoned ctc and told them he doesn't have a job

I think I'm getting there

can't see why anyone would want to live a benefit lifestyle. Think they should do degrees in it

Bronze...you need to claim JSA IB.

From the 102 you will receive £65 from this will be your partners contributions based JSA.

Your savings are fine.

They will need details of your mortgage protection policy.

bronze · 21/03/2010 10:08

we're not going tomorrow anymore
its been cancelled
waiting for new date

right so I need to claim IB, how do I do that?

You know I have never felt so thick

glad we only have to survive a month without the tax credits as we have 4 kids to feed.

OP posts:
onadietcokebreak · 21/03/2010 10:11

I think you need to ring the JC and advise it JSA IB you need not "C".

They can advise and should also sort you a new date ASAP.

You are not thick its the bloody complexity of the system.....even for me who has many years experience of working within in.

bronze · 21/03/2010 10:13

whys it income based not contribution based if dh has worked all that time? Its him claiming not me (confusing becaus eI think of us as a unit)

OP posts:
changearound · 21/03/2010 11:53

bronze your DH will get Contribution-based Jobseeker's Allowance for 26 weeks because he has worked for the last 2 years. This will be £64.30 per week but its paid every 2 weeks. After 13 weeks he can claim help with the interest on your mortgage.
Your Child tax can be looked at again taking into account your loss of household income.
After 26 weeks your DH will then go onto income based jsa. With this one anything over 20 pounds a week that you earn will be taken away from the £64.30 your DH would get.If that means your DH gets nothing it is still worth claiming because the will pay your DH NI payments.
In your OP you don't say when your DH finished work or if he has recieved any money instead of working his notice. If he was paid to leave instead of working his notice this will be taken into account when they decide when he can first sign on.e.g if he was paid 6 weeks he wouldn't be able to sign on till after the 6 weeks.

bronze · 21/03/2010 12:03

thanks thats what I thought (cokeconfused me)
he was paid 4 weeks notice and told to leave and we've been arguing about this
I said he couldnt claim until after
he says that his mate who was also dumped at the same time had asked about it and it started from the day he was no longer working as he is now officially unemployed

changearound · 21/03/2010 12:15

I have just read through your post again bronze and relised you don't work so your DH will claim for you too.
So..
CBJSA for 26 weeks £64.30
Then IBJSA for a couple £100.95
Help with mortgage after 13 weeks
Child tax credits around £182.14 per week
Child benefit £59.60 per week
Your full council tax paid.

Your DH still needs to contact the job centre but they may not see him till after the 4 weeks. Then his first payment will be 2 weeks after the 4 weeks have ended because they pay jsa 2 weeks in arreas.

expatinscotland · 21/03/2010 12:18

'Your full council tax paid.'

This doesn't happen. Even on full income-support or ESA or JSA, what have you.

You still have to pay about £20/month.

But much better than the full whack!

changearound · 21/03/2010 12:19

expatinscotland we get the full council tax paid while on in jsa

expatinscotland · 21/03/2010 12:22

bil is on income-based jsa now and still has to pay about £20/month.

expatinscotland · 21/03/2010 12:22

oh, and as he is disabled, he gets a bit more per week in JSA.

juneybean · 21/03/2010 12:23

I've been told I'm not eligible for JSA (C) and now I don't think I will be eligible for JSA (B) as I have savings over £6k

I'm not asking for any other benefits it'd just be nice to have some income until I find another job

changearound · 21/03/2010 12:23

Perhaps it depends what band council tax you are.We are the lowest one.

expatinscotland · 21/03/2010 12:24

he's in band A.

expatinscotland · 21/03/2010 12:25

a council flat.

SIL's on full income support.

she's in a council flat. band A.

still pays £17/month.

changearound · 21/03/2010 12:26

Or it maybe because he gets abit more money with his JSA.They give you in one hand and take it off you with the other.

expatinscotland · 21/03/2010 12:27

SIL doesn't get any more money as she is not disabled.

Still £17/month.

bronze · 21/03/2010 12:27

thanks
thats clearer than entitled to which I confuse myself using as I first tried it being straight up but of course it worked it out according to the fact that dh earned this year and last so they think we have an income. Then I pretended he hadn't worked but of course things change after a certain amount of time so that isnt quite right either.

Why do you get less if you've worked for the first 26 weeks than if you haven't out of interest?

Hes filled in the online form for CBJSA so presumably they'll contact him as and when its right

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 21/03/2010 12:27

Maybe it's an Edinburgh thing.

changearound · 21/03/2010 12:28

I really don't know.We live in a council house and get the full rebate.I really thought every one got the full rebate while on IS or JSA.

changearound · 21/03/2010 12:29

Maybe it is expat but if it is thats very wrong imo.
We are in the midlands.
