I've had a hand deliverd letter today from debt collection people saying i owe £43.84 pence to someone called Lowell Finical? I've no idea who these are and what the debt is for?
I had a letter a few weeks back saying the same thing but i was told to ignore it as the letter only stated the debt was from 2006
but as no name was given of who the debt was owed to it was more likely a scamm?
A friend said that they have to say who i owe the money to?
today's letter says the debt type is "non consumer"

any advice what to do as the letter is stating that is i do not pay the amount shown they will gain entry and take good to that amount? and i will have to pay extra costs on top

Lowell Finical are a bunch of scum bags who buy debt from other companies and then try to harass anyone they can find who might pay up. I have had letters from them in the past. Half the time they know you dont owe anything but your name my once have been connected to the address this debt was from.

Phone up and find out who the money is owed to and as long as you are sure this is not your debt tell them to get stuffed. Make sure they haven't put a note on your credit record though, if they have tell them to remove it.

Is it actually adressed to you? Is your name on it or the other one you recieved?

paul121 · 26/02/2010 15:55

yes its addressed to me,the name and address are hand written by the way, as i said it was deliverd by hand

I've really no idea who i "owe" this money too the letter does not state this and neither has any of the others they just say i owe this money.

the letter says the client is Lowell Fincacil but the letter come from a company called
Philps collection service

there is an email addres i feel like telling them where to go and take me to county court
purley because if they come here and Even try to take anything i will get arrested for GBH.
there is a phone number i can call but i'm not sure about phoning as the number charges

Send them a letter (not email) like this:

Lowell Finance
Address

Your Details

Date

Dear Sir/Madam

Account no: xxxxxxxx

You have contacted me regarding the account with the above reference number, which you claim is owed by myself.

I would point out that I have no knowledge of any such debt being owed to (insert company name).
I am familiar with the Office of Fair Trading Debt Collection Guidance which states that it unfair to send demands for payment to an individual when it is uncertain that they are the debtor in question.

I would also point out that the OFT say under the Guidance that it is unfair to pursue third parties for payment when they are not liable.

In not ceasing collection activity whilst investigating a reasonably queried or disputed debt you are using deceptive/and or unfair methods.

Furthermore ignoring and/or disregarding claims that debts have been settled or are disputed and continuing to make unjustified demands for payment amounts to physical/psychological harassment.

I would ask that no further contact be made concerning the above account unless you can provide evidence as to my liability for the debt in question.

I await your written confirmation that this matter is now closed.

Otherwise I will have no option but to make a complaint to the trading standards department and consider informing the OFT of your actions.

I look forward to your reply.

Yours faithfully

I am amazed they are chasing someone for such a small amount of money. In not much time at all, they will have spent more on admin chasing down the debt, than is owed!!

paul121 · 26/02/2010 16:30

ABitBatty:

thanks but i'm not sure

the letter isn't from Lowell its from "philips collection services" a debt collection agency

the letter says the Client is Lowell and the debt type is "non consumer" what ever that means (non consumer)

No company has been named that "i" owe this money to only a client that being "Lowell"

I know no company is named as to who you owe to, that's the point of the letter, to get proof of who the debt was from originally. I put Lowell as an example, address it to whoever has sent the letters!

Wisenheimer · 27/02/2010 15:26

How odd.

DH received a letter from Lowell on Thursday asking for the exact same amount as you, but for a debt with Sky. He hasn't had a Sky account since he lived with his ex girlfriend years and years ago. The Sky we've had has always been in my name.

I emailed them on Thursday but haven't received a reply.
