Friend owns a cabin holiday home and has had the invoice for the ground rent.

Invoice dated November 2009 (but this covers the period March 2010 to Jan 2011, so is paid in advance).

It is charged at 17.5% VAT.

Is this correct, even though it was dated November 09 when it would have been 15% ?

Thanks

Sounds right to me as VAT went back up on Jan 1st 2010.

The period that it covers though the VAT is 17.5%, regardless of when she was being invoiced. If she was paying from November then that and Dec would be 15% and the rest at 17.5%

Thanks for your replies - will tell my friend. He wasn't sure as the owner of the place is getting a bit arsey - he wondered if he was charging them 17.5 and pocketing the other 2.5%.

I know nothing of these things, but knew someone on here would!
