How much do you get in tax credits?

We get ....Household income of 27.000 2 kids 3.04 a week ..skint.

none. they overpaid us and we get nothing until next april. income of £20000, 1 child.

£40.47 a week one child - will go down in a few weeks when jess turns 1 tho.

We get full whack because we're self employed and made a loss last year and will again this year, hopefully we'll start to make money next year

DH is self employed we just applied for the first time this year. His accounts that were submitted showed an income of £23,000, 2 children and they awarded us £133.00 per month. I am waiting for them to say they have made an error. I have since returned to p/time work as well.

charliecat - that doesnt seem enough. we get about £450 a year (about £35 a month). DH earns £29000 and we have 1 child. So yours doesnt seem right

Stacks. Almost 8K. Almost as much as my wage.

7 pounds a week for 2 kids.

I get about £43 a week, I am single parent and not working at the moment. I am going to Uni in September though and have no idea what it will change to!

and that is for 1 toddler.

I've tried to get the formula from the IR, but it seems to be like the holy grail.

i get £54 pound a week
DP gets £200 in his wage packet.

Does anyone know if it changes when baby reaches 1?

Caligula - don't talk to me about trying to get formula! I tried with milk tokens but could not find anywhere that accepted them! I phoned up the numbers on the back and kept getting transferred and basically received absolutely NO help. Grrrr.

Finally my mum found somewhere but by then it was too late!

weesaidie - sorry, had to laugh, think Caligula meant the formula for workinging out the credits.

I've got the legislation and still haven't stumbled on the formula yet.

local helth clinics accept the tokens, they exchange it for milk there and then, same way sa free formula tokens for otehr benefits, except you pay something! iyswim!
can't get tax credits cos i'm a student and therefore classed as not employed even though i work 37.5 hours a week for the nhs.

Sorry, meant the formula for working out how much tax credits you're entitled to versus your wages, versus number of children. If you ask the DWP "how much is income support?" you get a straight answer. If you ask the IR "how do I work out my net income per annum?" you get a straight answer - they just tell you how to do it. But ask them about how to work out your tax credit award, and they go all shifty. And none of the literature they send you has the mathematical formula.

But yes, the milk formula thing is a joke as well!

charliecat, last year we got about £41 a month and that was on a household income of over £40k (for 3 children but I don't think they count the 3rd!) so your figures don't seem right.
Have you tried doing that online thing whhich calculates how much you should get?

I havent, the 3rd child I thought bumped the money up?...but im asking here to get a rough guess on everyone else.

£100 extra £ a month in WTC. £155/month in CTC. We do not use childcare. One 2 year old daughter. Another on the way, but not due till December.

Do you owe them something from previous years? On £27k, 2 kids you should be getting about £10 per week.

hmm, you could be right about the 3rd child charliecat. But I still think you should get more!

3rd child must make a difference.

I just 'invented' a 2 parent, 2 child family, 27K income and ran the figures on the IR website. Works out at about £10 per week.

Added in another child and it shot up to £27 per week
