Crikey Starlover that seems a lot - they assessed us on about £80/month based on earnings of £30K (before tax)

Toothache · 08/07/2005 13:07

NoPearls - 29k is the point where you wouldn't be entitled to get help with childcare costs of one child. But we have 2 and our childcare costs are relatively high. It's not just about your earnings.... but also how much childcare you pay!

Toothache · 08/07/2005 13:08

Aren't people forgetting here that most of people posting here will be receiving the CHILDCARE ELEMENT rather than the WORKING FAMILIES ELEMENT! Therefore if you earn less than £58 a year then you are entitled to help with childcare.

Toothache · 08/07/2005 13:09

Oops £58k a year!

TwinSetAndPearls · 08/07/2005 17:53

WE have a joint income of about £46,000 but last year which is what this years award is based on we were aboout half of dp was on a strange tax system being a contracted worker so his taxable earnings were only about £9000. A lot of my income is from my maintenance - not sure if they include that in tax credits assessment.

So I get £232 a month which includes my childcare element and dp gets about the same WTC. But it will be drastically reduced in the next tax year.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 08/07/2005 18:28

ill elaborate on mine.

DH earns £20000 Im a SAHM

I recieve £40.47 per week for Jess - no childcare and no WTC.

Distel · 08/07/2005 18:39

We recieve £90 a week for 3 children. Dh earns about £18k - I am a sahm.

munz · 08/07/2005 18:46

quick thought, hopefully this beanie will be born safely in march 06, and I'm planning on being a SAHM so our income will half if I tell IR i'm earnign as wel we'll get less but if I tell them I'm not (as the case will be) they could ask for it back if it goes on this current years earnings - how's that fair? or am I missing something?

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 08/07/2005 18:48

when you put the claim in, they ask for the previous years details.... once beanie is born, phone them and say you are no longer working and they will up it. It took me 4 months to realise that!!! My payments went up from £20 a week to £40!

munz · 08/07/2005 18:48

(DH is only on £17000 on his own at the minute)

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 08/07/2005 18:52

he's a lance jack aint he?!

Hermione1 · 08/07/2005 18:55

My dh earns about £20.000 i earn about £2500.00 we get about £42.46p a week.

hercules · 08/07/2005 19:01

do you pay childcare, Hermione?

Hermione1 · 08/07/2005 19:03

no
they are at school when i work so don't need to. Why? am i getting too much then??

Hermione1 · 08/07/2005 19:03

we don't qualify for working tax credits.

hercules · 08/07/2005 19:06

We are on a similar income and get around 8 pounfs a week for two kids. One under school age.

Hermione1 · 08/07/2005 19:08

oh god, i feel guilty now, i don't think they know what they are doing, one minute it's this the next minute it's that. if you get paid alot it's great but if your not its a right bummer.

Hermione1 · 08/07/2005 19:09

Before i started working and dh was wage was alot higher we got £60.

hercules · 08/07/2005 19:09

Is that a typo or is your income 2,500 a year?

starrynight · 08/07/2005 19:10

My DH earns about 11K and our tax credits altogether are £133 a week (not sure of the split though). And we get free prescriptions /glasses etc.

Thank god for tax credits.

starrynight · 08/07/2005 19:11

oh yes, 3 kids.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 08/07/2005 19:12

starrynight - you get WTC as well then dont you?

Mytwopenceworth · 08/07/2005 19:13

£270odd per week. but that is cos dh self employed on ridiculously small profit and i get child tc with disabled premium for 2 kids.

moozoboozo · 08/07/2005 19:13

My DP earns 25k, which just covers all our rent/bills etc (we live in a cheap house for our area, and the rent is still £700 pm) and we get £8 a week, which is why I break my neck to earn f all teaching the cello and working in a crappy pub. It would be nice not to have to, but needs must and all that.

NomDePlume · 08/07/2005 19:14

We get bugger all, the very minimum that they can give
