cheques for children

The DC's have each been sent a cheque made out in their own name. How do I cash them? One child has a trust fund, the other has some savings certificates thing. Do I need to open accounts for them to cash these cheques?

Depends. In some cases banks will accept them to your account but in others you need to open an account. You can however send them to the CTF.

Savings certificates you should be able to add to as well.

i guess the only way to find out is to ask my bank then.
