Child Care Tax Element - Wrong Advice???

DidsburyMama · 13/12/2009 15:48

Hi,

I am a mum of two and was promised by the HM Revenue on three separate occasions by three different telephone advisors that i would be eligible for the Child Care Tax element. I enrolled my children into nursery and was later told by HM revenue that i am not eligible and that previous advice given was incorrect. I have complained and hope to appeal.

Just wondering if anybody else has had similiar experiences?

Thanks.

You can be eligable for UP to 70% of childcare costs, you don't get it all paid for. This will depend on your circs so will depend on your household income (i.e yours and your partner's unless you are a single parent so just you earning) and working hours as you have to be working a min of 16 hours per week.

Depending on your income level, if you are a single parent, if you have a child under one, if you have savings giving income over a certain amount all these factors will be used for your claim.

The other possibility is that 3 year olds get 5 x 2.5 (though is changing/may have already changed to 5 x 3) hour sessions paid for the term after their third birthday.

I can't do links but you can go on their website and there is a calculator you put all your details in and it will tell you what you entitlement is.

You will only win at appeal if they have calculated your award wrong. If they haven't you wont be successful.

Thank you Carrielou2007 - I have ben on their website and according to them i am entitled to some costs.

And thankyou HppyMummyOfOne - i think they have calculated it wrong, so i shall wait and see as to how they respond to my complaint.

Many thanks
