2nd child - how much extra 3 in child tax credit?

Hi

I have a 3 yr old with another baby on the way. Both my dh and I work and don't qualify for the working tax credits but we do get about £40 a month for the child tax credit bit. Does anyone know how much we will get for the second baby when it arrives?

II have done the entitled to calculation but iI've had varying results between that and th direct.gov site, so thought some real life examples might be more telling!

Am trying to work out how skint I will be on mat leave and with the extra childcare when II return to work.

Thank you

As you only qualify for the basic rate of CTC now it should be approx £20 per week in the first year and £10 thereafter.

You will need to play with figures to see if you are likely to be entitled to any childcare help when the baby arrives.

I always find entitled to the more reliable but the results are only as good as the info you put in.

Happy to help if you want any further help....after all this subject is my favourite haunt.

Thanks dietcoke. So is that £20 per week on top of what i already get for DD? Or does that £20 per week go for the both of them?

ok I'm on basic and one of my lot is under 1 too and we get 18.50 a week. I have four children

bigchris · 24/11/2009 20:03

don't forget the 3 yr old will be entitled to 12.5 hours of free childcare a week

but I have just looked on entitled to and it says we should get 27.30 so who knows

I think it will go up to £20 p.w total until new baby is one and then it will revert to £10p.w total.

Have a play with entitledto with your new childcare figures and income.

You getting funding now? Suppose to be increasing to 15hrs pw in 2010.

Hi all

Thanks so much for your replies, gives me an idea of what to expect.

Yep DD is getting the 15 hours a week funding a week, she loves preschool and it means she can go an extra morning a week

Agree with the other, you will get an extra £10 a week so £20 total until the second one turns one then it will go back down to £10 a week.

Once you are on the basic rate it doesn't matter how many children you have, you still get £10 a week once they are all over one.
