Welcome Finance and PPI Trouble

I was made redundant in Aug 08 whilst I was on Maternity Leave. This leave finished in Dec 08 and I started claiming Jobseekers from then as I had a new baby to look after and not long after the birth my husband became seriously ill and taken into ICU for 2 weeks so I had to look after him so was unable to start signing on then.

Anyway, the PPI paid out from December 08 to Jul 09 which is when the loan finished. As far as I was aware they paid from the date of my redundancy as I had provided them with letters and other forms from my employer with the Aug 08 dates on.

Welcome and their PPI people have now turned around and said that I owe them payments from Aug-Dec 08 as I was not looking for work even though I was told at the beginning that it had all been backdated.

They are now after taking me to a debt collection agency over this (I am still out of work and not entitled to Income Based Jobseekers as my Husband works over 20hrs pw and himself is in an IVA so he cannot take on this debt).

I am willing to pay off the outstanding amount when someone gives me a job but until then I cannot afford to.

What do you suggest?

Do I try and claim the PPI back as possibly being mis-sold as they didnt say I had to sign on straight away and finish my ML early?
Do I complain to the FSA as I should have been told all this last year?

As you can understand I'm rather upset and angry at this and would like a line drawn under it.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated and apologies for the essay!

contact your local CAB for advice and if there is a chance you have been missold the PPI they can point you in the right direction.

I would also have a word with the Insurance Ombudsman about this. Though you can only go to them once you have complained to the original company and you are unhappy with their response. www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/
You need to read the small print in the contract as well.

Thanks BGD, I rang the PPI people back to day and asked them to write to me telling me why they wont pay out as I'm not happy etc. After I posted on here last night I wrote to the FSO about it so we shall see!
