do you have to repay the taxman if you are declared bankrupt?

Just wondering, if it is an outstanding debt that would have to be paid even if slowly over time?

depends on which catagory tax is owed

it's from earnings, unpaid tax from a few yrs back, before declared bankrupt.

Thing is I would have thought this tax would have been found out about from then, in that tax year?

No. Your friend needs to inform them that he/she was declared bankrupt, and give details of the case number/court/year. Then direct all further enquiries to the official receiver.
