Fax Spam!

I'm really bloody angry about this.

I've got one of those multi use printers with a fax built in. God knows why I bought it as I never send faxes - I suppose I thought it would be good to have if I ever needed to

Anyway, somehow my fax number (same number as my phone) has got on some spam list and now I'm receiving advertising faxes. I don't know how long it's been going on for as first I assumed that DS was printing out rubbish from his PC and was just binning it all.

I've just had another come through offering me a 20% discount for an 0333 telephone number. The only contact details are the company name and a telephone number. The telphone number is a Vodaphone voicemail and the company (SHIT there's another one coming through now ) has a website, but they look professional. I've emailed them to find out if it's originating from them but they haven't replied yet.

The one that just came through is offering me a free Blackberry. That one has a number to call to be removed from their list, but if I'm on a spam list that isn't going to stop other companies is it?

Does anyone know if this is illegal? I think it's an utter piss-take, using up my paper, electricity and ink to advertise rubbish that I'm not interested in.

Any ideas how I can stop this?

Think I have this sorted now, but posting in case someone else has this problem and searches the archives.

The professional looking company were responsible for one of the faxes and have promised to remove me from their database. They told me that they had got my number from a marketing company called Tellfish, but I can't find any reference to them on the web so I can get them to stop giving out my number.

I found the FPS by googling and they state that it's unlawful to send advertising faxes to individuals without their prior consent. I've registered with them to opt out of advertising faxes, but it takes 28 days to become active, so hopefully soon this liberty taking practice will stop.
