Has anyone used Western Union to transfer or recieve money from USA?

Hi, someone in the USA needs to send me a large amount of money and have said they will send it by Western Union so i can go and collect from my local branch. I have never used western union before (never even heard of them), as it is a large amount of money i am slightly worried. Has anyone used them to transfer money?

i have just seen on ebay a lot of people saying they wont take it, and for cars etc on autotrader, not sure why though, wouldnt paypal be better as i think thats a bit more guaranteed isnt it? sorry no idea though really hope someone else can help

I thought Western Union was dodgy?? (I could be wrong, will go google).

I would be very wary of anyone who wants to use WU.

Attila- they are not buying anything from me, i can't really go into detail but someone (a small company) in America owe me money which i hold in an account with them, this company looks like it may be going bankrupt (hense wanting my money back), they are saying the only way they can return my money to me is through Western Union, i have agreed to them doing this as it seems the only chance i have of seeing my money. I'm worried as i have never used anything like this before (other than paypal).

I wish i could tell you more details, this may all sound a bit dodgy but its not at all, basiclly i am embaressed for trusting these people with my money.
