what do I do? I paid on paypal via their website.

does paypal cover you - sorry I'm not in-the-know but dh uses paypal sometimes and I think it's because there's some degree of protection for when things like this happen? Maybe they could be your first port of call, or alternatively, e-mail the company again stating that if you don't hear from them by the end of the business day, you will be contacting paypal to claim you money back and then at least they can't turn around and say you didn't try to sort it out directly.
Sounds dodgy - good luck with that.
