i need to hire a car when in spain in july. most of the sights i have looked at say you need a credit card to leave as a 'deposit'. My cards are up to the limits and we are currently looking into debt advice etc. Iwas thinking of getting a pre paid card or a lloyds travel card but would these be accepted as a credit card or not???

i don't want to get there and find they won't......how do the know the difference between a pre paid credit card and a normal card?

TIA

hi, we have hired a car in greece and gran canaria when we got there and we didnt need to use a card. we left a deposit in cash in case anything happens as that's all any of them wanted. we actually bumped our car in gran canaria and they didnt even check the car when we took it back! they gave us all our deposit.

DLI - did you book before you went?

No, we just got one when we were there. we only hired one for about three to four days during the middle of our holida, not the full time we were there. we just looked around whilst we were out and about, spoke to a company one day and the next day we got it, in greece they delivered it to our hotel and picked it up and in gran canaria we collected it. we got chance to see what the cars were like before we hired one - there are some dodgy places about. are you going with a holiday company? usually they can recommend one.

no we aren't going with a company. We got the flights and are using a friend of a friends villa so we are kind of left to our own devices, we need one from the airport to get to the villa and then to get around the 2 weeks we're there and back to the airport............holidayautos is the cheapest we could find (reputable co ?????)

haven't heard of them sorry. what about avis? or europcar? they are global. i suggest you google holidayautos for reviews and see what other people have said about them.

apparently they are part of lastminute.com - they'll find the car through a worldwide co but for a good price
