Has Anybody Heard of the Babeecard Prepaid Mastercard?

tamaraotter · 06/05/2009 14:44

I should perhaps have asked this before I purchased one.
I'm just a bit worried about them as I paid some money onto a card I have (a few hundred pounds) via bank transfer and they haven't paid it onto my card yet.
Has been over a week and six working days (they estimate up to four). I've phoned twice and been fobbed off with them contacting the financial dept as they can't trace it.
I heard other people in their call centre (not very private) with similar queries and am worried about my money if they are in difficulties.
many thanks

I see from their website that the card is issued by the Newcastle Building Society - I don't want to out myself by giving too much info but I do have some knowledge of this and I'd say it's likely to be OK as long as your money has reached them. Do you know which bank you transferred the money to ?

tamaraotter · 07/05/2009 14:58

It was transferred to Barclays and has definitely been sent to the correct account, so no problems on my side.
I'm just worried they're in financial trouble and delaying for that reason, or it's some interest gaining ploy.
My money is still not there

BaBeeCard · 07/05/2009 21:21

You can email me Tamara at [email protected] and we can get to the bottom of where your funds are.

Please email me the reference number you put on the form / transfer and i'll locate tomorrow.

Please don't worry, we are not running an interest gaining ploy.

goldrock · 08/05/2009 11:05

Looks like you've had a result - I was just going to reply and say I'm sure it will OK and to call cust. services again.
Will you post and confirm all is well when its sorted.

laurawantsababy · 08/05/2009 18:08

I have one but havent yet transferred any money.

Babeecard - Can I take my card and cash into my bank and put money on that way??

tamaraotter · 08/05/2009 23:11

Well I called again yesterday, was supposed to receive a call today saying my funds had been transferred.
No call, no funds.
It will be nearly a fortnight on Monday.
I'm actually worried that a company has posted on a forum, is that particularly normal?
I think I'll phone rather than emailing my details to somebody who has posted on here and could be anybody, thanks all the same.

i thought the same tamaraotter

a bit odd

BaBeeCard · 09/05/2009 15:06

@tamaraotter

I am the co-founder of BaBeeCard, I am also a mum to a 22 month old boy so I use this website & forum as does other mums and pregnant women.

I was hopefully trying to put your mind at rest by offering you some extra assistance so I can find out what's gone wrong as I need to know so I can speak to Customer Services and find out why they aren't dealing with your case as they should be.

I am not selling on Mums net neither pushing the card, I am simply trying to help you as I have the means to do so.

If you don't want to email me on the address given, would you be so kind as to email [email protected] so I can pick it up that way?

I feel I am allowed to answer any posts that mention either a) my company or b) me personally.

If I could contact you directly I would of course have taken that route to reassure you but I can't on here so apologies if it may appear strange.

Regards,

or [email protected] that address is on the website under "Contact Us" so it's a genuine email address if you are still worried.

BaBeeCard · 09/05/2009 15:20

@tamaotter

Go to www.babeecard.com/contact_us.html and you will see a pic of me and my email address. I hope to hear from you soon.

mumoverseas · 09/05/2009 16:24

Gemma, can I just ask how this card works and what the minimum age is? I'm thinking of my DS who is going back to the UK in the summer to do his A levels and wondered whether this would be a good way to give him his pocket money on a card?

Idranktheeasterspirits · 09/05/2009 16:38

mumoverseas - there are lots and lots of different pre-pay cards available. Have a look on moneysavingexpert to compare them.
You need to be careful which you choose as they all charge fees, some much more than others.

BaBeeCard · 09/05/2009 16:47

@mumsoverseas

The minimum age for the MasterCard is 18yrs but there are some Maestro cards on the market for over 13's.

As Idranktheasterspirits mentions there are lots of cards out there on the market to choose from.

Extreme Cred seems to be popular with younger people but won't give him the discounts of food, petrol & living essentials.

Another one is Breadcard they do cashback online so if he shops online it would be worth looking at.

Hope this helps.

llareggub · 09/05/2009 17:05

This all seems like free advertising by stealth. I'd never heard of this card until today and now in one day I've read 2 threads on it. Coincidence?

BaBeeCard · 09/05/2009 17:18

@llaraggub

I didn't start the thread.

laurawantsababy · 09/05/2009 19:13

Gemma - I have recently got a Babee card and havent yet uploaded any funds. Can I go into my bank and do it there or do I have to use a debit card?

laurawantsababy · 09/05/2009 19:14

Sorry, have just seen you response to my other thread. Thanks.

tamaraotter · 10/05/2009 16:36

I think it is unprofessional. If somebody from my bank did this I'd be
I'm phoning babeecard on Monday and refuse to be fobbed off. I got a card as a way to regulate my spending, it has certainly done that! I'm also closing my account asap.
I'm going to contact MNHQ about this blatant advertising.I hope others have done the same.
Frankly though, I can't think why somebody would want to risk their money in this way, including the very new user who seemed interested in the card rather inexplicably.

A lot of companies now have a net presence to find dissatisfied customers and try and rectify the issue as they realise the impact of negative feedback and want to show a positive resolution.

The company I work for (financial sector) has a special team who's job is to search the internet and contact people leaving their phone nos/emails addresses.

ilove · 10/05/2009 18:04

I have a paypal visa topup card and it is BRILL, top it up with cash at any paypoint and it credits within the hour, or drop cash onto it from your paypal account and it is there after 2pm the next day.

Shop online and in store with it and take cash out of the wall.

No fees, no interest, just £4.95 initially to buy it.

mumoverseas · 10/05/2009 18:29

not sure how it is blatant advertising when Gemma has attempted to answer queries raised on here and has not started the thread?
As Liskey says, a lot of companies do try to rectify issues raised on here and regularly conduct searches on their companys. I'd prefer to get answers on here or matters clarified than waste time on hold listening to lift music whilst running up my phone bill.

MrsGokWan · 10/05/2009 18:50

The prepaid card a lot of people use is the Cashplus.

www.mycashplus.co.uk/landing/c495/?pc=MSM502

This is also a rarity among prepaid cards, in that it does give you Section 75 protection, meaning pay for something costing between £100 and £30,000 on it, and the card issuer's equally liable with the retailer if something goes wrong, which if that happens on another card you are basicly stuffed.
