I have just received the last quarter's bill (end of Jan to end of April 2009) and am shocked that we have used £116 of electricity and £199 of gas for a 3 bed end-of-terrace house. Is this normal? May turn the computer off while I wait for replies to save on the electric!!

FAQinglovely · 30/04/2009 11:54

thumbwitch · 30/04/2009 11:55

jeez, I would have LOVED to have that bill...

morningpaper · 30/04/2009 11:56

estimated or actual?

seems low, I agree

Megglevache · 30/04/2009 11:58

It's almost exactly the same as ours here give or take a couple of quid.

3 bed house too.

Stagiaire · 30/04/2009 12:03

Really? Wow - well I guess that makes me feel a bit better. Just seems so much money and they've upped our dd to £107 per month - yikes...

oth my gas and elec were double yours i did contact british gas and it turns out i have used roughly the same amount of gas and elec units as the year before so its all the price hikes that have made it so dear........it is a joke though and so much money

TitsalinaBumsquash · 06/05/2009 13:21

How the hell does this happen?! I live in a large 2bed flat and i can't speak for electric becuase i have a key meter but i pay £25 DD for Gas each month and i have just had a payment of £150 put into my bank as we were in a lot of credit with them. Do i have a magic gas meter?!

hobbgoblin · 06/05/2009 13:24

Yes, try multiplying that 3 times to get my quarterly bill!

notyummy · 06/05/2009 13:32

I wouldn't say it is that low (we pay @ £250 a quarter in winter for gas/electricity) for a 4 bed detached house. We rarely used dishwasher; heating only on if very cold, and tumble dyer only used about once a month, so that all might help. Oh, and absolutly NOTHING left on standby unless we have to - microwave etc all switched off at plug.

Apparently you can get little monitors (OWLS i think they are called?) that show you how much you are using, so you can see the difference when you switch a few things off.

We are thinking of getting one as they souns good.

Tinker · 06/05/2009 13:35

Do you have to plug the OWLS in?

Just checked ours, 3 bed semi - last 1/4 133 electricty and 269 gas which did make me gasp a bit. We pay £81 pm DD. No tumble dryer, house empty most week days, no dishwasher, radiators off in most upstairs rooms (too hot otherwise)
