Was just googling our address this eve and up came a listing for a company on a website called checksure.biz. From the company number it appears to be a limited partnership which is registered in Northern Ireland.

I checked the companies house listings and there doesn't seem to be an entry with that number, and i couldn't find anything on the DETI site (NI companies house equivalent).

Was wondering why there would be a listing on this checksure site though. Has anyone ever heard of them? We have had massive trouble with the previous owner of our house, who has managed to have mounting debts connected with our address, even after 5 years owning this house.

How would i go about clearing this up? And even, is there anything to be cleared up?

I'd say not to worry about it BUT sadly as we are increasingly finding, the one source of sure-fire action to stop harassment appears to be having your case taken up in the 'problems' page of a broadsheet newspaper!

Fwiw, the previous owner of our now rented house ran a dog-washing business. 5 years later I still get at least one call a week from someone wanting a service! Apparently this number is still in Yellow Pages though we called and asked them to remove it (as the ad wasn't paid up any more!).

But if I were you, I wouldn't worry too much about it unless you have specific cause. They (anyone becoming a nuisance) DO have to be able to link your name to a company. Presumably the 'massive trouble' you mention is debt collecting letters? I believe- and here I hope someone else will come in and tell you the exact details, you can write back to the harassing company/person telling them that they are harassing you and that it is illegal. I expect the CAB can tell you the letter of the law.

Our address is also listed on Checksure along with many other trade directories, etc and we have lived her for 9 years

The worst thing about checksure is they are supposed to be a credit checking agency and charge for credit reports on the companies they have listed.

If their database is at least 9 years out of date how reliable can their info be?

checkSURE · 22/10/2009 15:18

Hi There. The checkSURE database is updated daily (although sometimes NOT Sundays if we are doing systems work). Consequently, no company or business which is trading NOW should have most recent data which is nine years old on our system! However, we do have information on companies that have been dissolved. For example this morning a checkSURE User bought data on a company which went out of business in 1991. This data is still held by UK Companies House.

Sole traders and partnerships are also covered by our business reports but data here is much harder to come by for obvious reasons. These are reports on non-limited business and their checkSURE database reference number begins with ?NL?. All this is explained if you visit our site and click on the report descriptions on the Home Page. Since we need to buy in data and generate reports we need to make a charge. Hope this explains things.

If you have any data queries contact checkSURE customer Services. If we are awake we respond immediately. Gary Ling, Digital Producer, checkSURE Limited

I recently contacted Checksure regarding incorrect information posted on the Internet by them.This was about my old company now wound up, they have promised to look into this erroron their part.They have been given the accountants details so there should be no excuse to have the matters corrected....It is very worrying to find misinformation of that nature posted on the Internet....[shock}
