tax refunds

a couple of month ago i wrote to my local tax office, stating that i thought i should be due a refund from 4 years ago, as i had to leave work that year due to ill health.

They have wrote to me today, returning paperwork and saying that claim is being dealt with, and will be sent to me separately. I know i am jumping the gun a bit, but as car exhaust it about to fall off, thought i would ask for people's experiences. Does that sound like it has been refunded - and how long does it take from now??

Many thanks

Normally they write just before they send the cheque to tell you how much you are getting back, or it can be offset against your tax code.
