Natwest and Barclays say you have to be 11 yrs to have one. Any ideas where I can open one for my dd?

ds was just offered one by Nationwide as he turned 11. Why does an 8yr old need access to ready cash ?

Co operative Bank do one but they don't have many branches.

Seems very young to have a cash card.

ramonaquimby · 16/04/2009 17:17

why do you want an 8 year old to have a cashpoint card?

eltham · 16/04/2009 17:46

it's her pocket money and she needs to learn to save and spend wisely.

she has only this week - at 8 - started getting £1 pocket money a week..so we're hardly talking big bucks here

Besides, she'll not without a parent to supervise her withdrawing money.
Given this, I'm not sure what the difference is between her having a cashcard and signing a slip of paper to get money out. In fact, she could paper sign her own money out after aged 7 if she had a NATWESt a/c.

My 10 year old has a nationwide account. It comes with a passbook (he can't get a card until he's 11), but the passbook can be used in their cash machine with a pin number to withdraw cash. I think its better for him than a card because he can always see how much is in there - but he still has the indepenance of using the 'hole in the wall'!

thanks 123...is the passbook a kind of card then (same size)..what would a 11 yr old child's cashcard offer that a passbook doesn't?
