Leasing your property to the Council or HA - have oyu done?

Hi,

Trying to see if this might be a better option than selling in this current economic climate.
I'm hoping to lease it to an HA and then buy another property with the equity (just hoping the bank will agree to it).

Have you or anyone you know done this? What are the disadvantages/advantages of going down this route?

For my 3 bed house, I'll get roughly £800 a month guaranteed rent, but I understand the property has to be in very good condition.

Thanks

Hi, one of my friends rents her house 3 bedroom to the council, nice decor and plain colours, no central heating and gets about 575 a month. She has rented now for 3 years and never had any problems with the council. I also think the council have to return it to you in the state in which you let it to them?

my friend does this as well and hasn't had any problems to date

Bumping for my own selfish interest in this as a possibility for me

all i can say is GOOD LUCK.

I shouldnt sound too moody about this but i did this.
I rented my 3 bed house to the council for a lease period of 3 years. AND yes they are meant to give it back to you save 'fair wear and tear' on the property.

well it all went wrong after that. It took the management agency (whom the council used to mamage all private leases) 1 yr to hand my keys back to me. I am currently paying a solicitor a huge amount of money to take the agency to some sort of arbitration as the condition in which they gave the property back to me is appalling to say the least.
They even built walls inside my property.
