Copywrites.....does anyone know how this works??????

Can anyone tell me how I can copywrite something that I have made so that it is not reproduced by anyone else?????

At work with fashion designs we would post a copy of the design to ourselves with a big C and a circle round the C,and the postmark date on the unopened envelope would stand up in court if anyone tried to bite our style.

That's all i know about copywriting.
