Anyone with experience of letting agencies refence and finance checks?

We want to move into private rent from a ha property but all several letting agencies are being awkward to say the least

any advice on what is checked, anything we should do?

The reference agency will check with your bank, your employers and your previous landlord as a minimum.

What do you mean by several letting agencies "being awkward"?
