I have in front of me the user ID sent through the post in october. I ahve in front of me the new password sent last night by email. Yet it still keeps saying I am entering either the wrong uder id or wrong password!
I have been trying to get through to someone all day and keep getting a message saying they are busy and cutting me off!
A few weeks ago I logged in succesfully using the user id I have in front of me and a different password, tried to log in last night (having got the missing ifno) and it won't let me. I thought the password ahd expired but now I'm not so sure

only things I can think of are to double check the o/0 and 1/i.

scrooged · 31/01/2009 17:00

use exactly the same letters and number sizes with no spaces. See if this helps.

walkthedinosaur · 31/01/2009 17:01

I had trouble logging on last night, it's because the password was case sensitive and the letters at the beginning were in uppercase and those at the end were in lowercase, give that a try and see what happens

Saltire · 31/01/2009 17:02

All the letters in the password are lower case, I have typed them in exactly as I see them (eg ex45rt6s) and tried them in Upper case as well. It won't let me in!

Miss out the gaps in the user ID. This worked for me.

Saltire · 31/01/2009 17:05

I am missing out the gaps in the user ID, have tried it both ways, with and without gaps. it's not working!

I still haven't got my activation code so cannot even submit mine. £100 fine is on its way.

Sorry I digress. I won't even let me in the system with my user ID and password.

scrooged · 31/01/2009 17:07

Hmm. What's it saying?

You can reset the password if you go to the 'password unknown' bit, I did this last night. They put half on the screen and email you half but I didn't get the email until this morning.

scrooged · 31/01/2009 17:09

Have you read the letter with the user ID on it to see if it expires unless you use it/do something within a certain time period. The tax office do this sometimes.

Saltire · 31/01/2009 17:09

Mine just isn't letting me in at all. it did on Thursday using the user ID I havein front of me and a different password, then last night it wouldn't let me use the password I ahd used previously

OP posts:
ChasingSquirrels · 31/01/2009 17:10

is that the problem for Saltire then? Is the email only the 2nd half of the password?

scrooged · 31/01/2009 17:12

ah. Erm. Maybe they have a few too many folk filling it in at the moment. Are you using the half from the screen then the email half after to make one big password? Mine's huge! You stick them together to make one.

scrooged · 31/01/2009 17:14

Yes chasingsquirrels. There's 2 half's, one on the screen when you ask for a new one, then they email the other half. Use the screen one as the first half, then the email as the second half with no gaps.

ChasingSquirrels · 31/01/2009 17:14

yes - they could well just be VERY busy.

scrooged · 31/01/2009 17:15

I imagine there's a few thousand that leave it until the last day. Me included!

scrooged · 31/01/2009 17:36

Is it working now?

Saltire · 31/01/2009 18:42

I got half the password yesterday on screen and half by email. It is this password that I amtrying to no avail. The user ID got me in (with a diff password) a couple of days ago, still no luck on the phone!

OP posts:
Saltire · 31/01/2009 18:43

Altogether it has 12 letters and numbers in it

OP posts:
Saltire · 31/01/2009 18:45

They aren't even putting me on hold in a queue, just cutting it off!

OP posts:
Saltire · 31/01/2009 18:58

It s a fiddle isn't it, the Inland Revenue aren't answering the phones so they can fine everyone who is late

OP posts:
Saltire · 31/01/2009 19:31

They still aren't answering - in fact its not even ringing, just saying its busy and cutting off!
Oh well, £100 fine for me, but I shall argue

OP posts:
ChasingSquirrels · 31/01/2009 19:33

Saltire - if you pay what is due then they won't fine you (well they probabaly will but will cancel it when you complain). The fine is lower of £100 or tax outstanding - if all paid off then fine = £0.

Am at the not answering phone so they can fine you comment.
It is Saturday, you have had nearly 10mo's to do your return. I am amazed they are even there today.

AnitaBlake · 31/01/2009 19:58

I'm having the same trouble. I couldn't get in on my username and password either, I tried the lost password facility and it's unavailable too! I wouldn't care but I only earned in full-time employment last year, so have nothing to pay! Het ho, giving up for tinght, will try again tomorrw.
