Help with post marriage name changing please...

I adopted DH's surname when we got married. I now wish I had kept my own surname as well and adopted a double barelled name.

Eg: assuming my maiden name was smith and dh's was bean, I believe I would have been automatically entitled to call myself Mrs Smith Bean.

  1. Is this correct?
  1. Having adopted DH's name (is plain Mrs Bean) what are the procedures to change it later to a double barelled one?
  1. What would ds be known as? DH would stay Mr Bean, I would be Mrs Smith Bean. Am happy for ds to stay Bean.

I don't really want to go down the 'deed poll' route unless that's the only way.

Is there a middle way where I can use my birth and marriage certificates to change to what I would have been entitled to adopt immediately post-marriage?

On getting married the only options are to keep your name or adopt DH's. To change to double barrelled the only option is to use a deed poll.

DS's name will stay as deckared on his birth certificate.

I used a deed poll post marriage to change my name - I Added my surname as an additional middle name & dh's Surname as my surname. Deed poll was very straightforward.
