DH was a self employed contractor at two sites for the same client.

as per my previous thread, they didn't pay the last invoice, he said 'i can't afford the petrol to get to the site', they said well dont bother coming back then. week before xmas.

we still have keys to their facilities and they still haven't paid us. now they are asking for their keys. legally should we return them or can we wait til the invoice is paid?

he also has tools and personal property at both sites.

any idea where we stand?

TIA.

If he has keys to their building, he needs to return them. If it gets messy and ends up at small claims, a judge will likely grant the other side costs for a lock change/security if he fails to return keys.

Why no suggest he returns with the keys and collects his own things at the same time. The unpaid invoice can then be dealt with in the usual manner.
