1st payment of phone contract after just 2and half weeks!!

When did your 1st payment with your pay monthly phone come out of your account?

I joined Virgin mobile on the 4th of Nov and on the 21st of Nov the 1st payment came out.

The problem is, the payment came out of my payment account where all my direct debits come out at the end or beginning of the month just after I get paid.

Now this payment has taken my account over the overdraft limit and likely to incur charges.

I can't believe they did this just after 2 and half weeks of opening the account.

I paid my BT up front so I guess it's normal.

But surely it's not a month yet, I was hoping the payment will come out after at least 4 weeks.

we had this too. Signed up for a 3 mobile but the salesperson did say it comes out bout 3 weeks after joining! So at least we knew

You usually pay a month in advance for most things I think.

It does sound normal though, I upgraded my contract phone not long ago and signed a new contract. They then took a payment a few days later.

I signed up online and there is nothing on this on the paperwork I got from them.

i think some of them just have set payment dates, so thats when it gets taken out. Also you will pay in advance, nver in arrears, cept for any extra calls/texts on top of the plan.

Creole · 24/11/2008 22:25

But surely they should have informed me - I would have transferred some money into the account.

I would've checked tbh before filling in the direct debit instruction

Creole · 24/11/2008 22:32

seriously, there was nothing to say the payment would come out after just 2 and half weeks.

Can you ring them up and see if you can change the payment date?

Creole · 25/11/2008 08:25

They can only do that after the 1st payment has been recieved.

Just to update you on this, I did some research on this. Apparently, a company has to give you a payment date of 10 days before the payment is due. This is stipulated in the Direct Debit guarantee.

I called them quoting the DD guarantee, and after checking all their correspondence with me, they realised it was their mistake for not giving me a date, so will be refunding any bank charges I get.

3 did this to us. When I complained they were totally disinterested.
