Have been away in UK just for the weekend. Have had my handbag stolen.

Bag, purse, camera and contents equal about £600.

Have called Alliance and Leicester fortis insurance (we get it free with our premier account) but they couldn't tell me anything over the phone, just said to fill out the form and they will look at it!

anyone done this?

would we be covered as we were only away in Uk for two days?

seems you have to have been away for 5 days in the UK

Is there anything else I could claim it off?

Need a bright idea!

If you have personal possessions cover on your home insurance then you can claim under that.

surprisenumber3 · 23/11/2008 22:35

I'm pretty sure we dont

Sorry to hear that

Thats so rubbish! Most travel insurance policies are claimable as long as you have 1 night booked in a hotel or a flight booked.

I'm sorry this has happened to you. Yes its possible you could claim as "possessions away from home" under your home insurance.

You've put this in my mind now and i'll need to check our insurance as its free with our HBOS account.

I think most of these "freebies" with premier accounts tend to have catches that mean they are not terribly useful and, when you consider what you are paying for the account, are probably not really free. There is often a clause saying they won't cover cameras, for example - naturally that's the most frequently lost item. And the five day away minimum is another classic. Sorry. I would look carefully into what the "Premium" account actually does offer you?
