how do i go about finding an independent financial adviser?

we have an endowment and suffice to say it won't pay up and we're only paying the interest

Look in yellow pages/ask friends for recommendations, or why not pop into your bank they ain't independent but will give you advice.

why don't you just take out a repayment for the outstanding part as rates are lower at the moment ?

yellow pages - most towns have a local independent one - if theyve been there for years then should be ok.

otherwise fill in an online application on uswitch etc. theyll recommend one who'll get in touch - usually by phone to discuss what you need. and go from there.
