Dd had her taptop on the 29/05/08 so is only 5mths old.We brought it from PC world. We have got the receipt but from past experience with other shops know some times they try to say you have to deal with the manufacturer. So would like to know where we stand legally before taking the laptop back.
Thanks for any info.

To summarise the provisions of the Sale of Goods Act, a laptop that stops working of its own accord after 5 months is not fit for the purpose for which it was sold to you by the shop and you are therefore entitled to repair, replacement (if they can't repair it), or refund (if they can't replace it). But retailers don't generally repair things themselves, so the Act allows them to make reasonable arrangements for repair, which usually means sending them back to the manufacturer.
