SlartyBartFast · 04/08/2008 22:34

this can't be right.
i pay 50 direct debit for electricity and 50 for gas monthly, and not due to the recent price hike, been like this for at least 6 months.
should i complain?

£48 a month for both. Reasonable sized 2 bed terrace. Central heating but no fires. We are shivering tonight but we have it on quite a lot, daytimes too for 4 days a week.

I have a hot water bottle and slippers. Warm feet make the whole body feel warmer.

British Gas for both.

Why are they called total control fgs - unless its just THEM in control.

Chocolateteapot · 05/08/2008 07:09

Was £65 a month with Eon for both but have changed to a fixed tariff so will go up a bit. We have a 4 bed chalet bungalow with cavity wall insulation, gas central Heating and a woodburner . We also spent another £100 on logs over the winter.

DutchOma · 05/08/2008 09:05

£91.29 for electricity and £68.69 for gas in a three bedroom terraced over three months. 28 April-28th July when the meters were actually read as opposed to being estimated.
Southern elctric.

LittleDorrit · 05/08/2008 11:18

About £40 per month for electricity (and I don't even have a dryer and do very little baking !) and in winter it was about £85 per month for gas. That's for a two bedroom flat !

shinyshoes · 05/08/2008 11:30

Electric £55.00 a month

We are with Scottish Gas.

£77 a month for gas

£123 a month for electricity

4 bedroom house with a sunroom

Shoshe · 05/08/2008 19:08

£114.00 a month for combined electric and gas.

2 Bedroom semi.

Work from home as a CM, so heating on low all day in the winter.

Lights on a lot in the winter, meals cooked and stored (cooker fridge freezer) for 8 people.

we are with Scottish Power but I do check frequently who is the cheapest and move supplier if better deal comes along.

chinchi · 05/08/2008 19:08

Our last gas bill with Atlantic was just less than 100.00 from April-July.

Our electricity is on a key-meter provided by British Gas and were using around 30.00 a month.

We live in a 3 bedroomed mid terrace.

Quadrophenia · 05/08/2008 19:09

just had my gas bill through for the last quarter £26 with southern electric

3 bedroom semi detached.

schneebly · 05/08/2008 19:11

I dont pay for either

I am very lucky.

IllegallyBrunette · 05/08/2008 19:17

I am on a prepayment meter for my gas which i know is a more expensive way of doing it, but it helps me to not get in a mess. I put £10 a week on that.

My last quarterly bill for electric (npower) was £150 which is ok but I hadn't the money so have rung and arranged a payment plan to co ver that and future electric, and will be paying £70 a month.

WendyWeber · 05/08/2008 19:23

IB, once you have paid off your bill check out switching to Ebico - they don't charge extra for pre-payment

moshie · 05/08/2008 19:26

50 each here too, 3 bed semi

nickytwotimes · 05/08/2008 19:32

40 and 42.
4 bed terrace and miserly husband.

SorenLorensen · 05/08/2008 19:42

We were with npower at £66 per month for gas and £59 for electricity - £1500 a year, but have just capped with ScottishPower til August 2009. We're paying even more now but at least it won't go up for a year - will be £1624 a year now (estimated). Live in a 4 bed, mid terrace, with double glazing, loft insulation, nearly all energy saving bulbs and a reasonably up-to-date (8 years old), annually serviced combi-boiler. Have no idea why it's so bloody much!

IllegallyBrunette · 05/08/2008 19:44

I am not actually behind with my gas weny, so will check that out now, thanks.

beckykj · 05/08/2008 19:46

I'm on a pre payment for both and put £40 a month in gas and £20 in for electric.

Miggsie · 05/08/2008 19:48

£185 per month combined bill...luckily on a capped rate.
Large house though so I've jsut had individual thermostats fitted to the bedrooms we don't use much.
DH has 6 PCs which I am FOREVER turning off as he leaves them on all the time.

Dishwasher has just died so I've decided not to repair it and now we wash by hand.
Lots of savings there.

mumfor1standmaybe2ndtime · 05/08/2008 19:48

I am paying £73 a month for gas and electric, I live in a 2 bed terrace. I turn my gas on for an hour a day to heat water and heating is off until I can feel the cold - probably October. The cooker is electric.
I had my latest bill yesterday and I am £63 in credit.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 07/08/2008 14:03

currently £56.50 a month for both - scottish power. we only live in a two bed flat though - we switch everything off, heating hasn't been on since February, don't own a tumble dryer but we rent and there's no double glazing or decent insulation....am terrified of rising rates cos we have a baby due to be born mid winter!
