Single parent - Student Nurse Advice!!

Hi everyone

Hope I'm posting this in the right place.

I currently work as a senior care practitioner and have recently applied to study adult nursing at uni as it's something I've always wanted to do and my son's almost 14 so I thought I'd go for it.

I'm 36 and in Scotland.

My question really revolves around money! It makes me really nervous to rely on student funding and yes I could probably still do shifts here and there but nursing is obviously full time in itself. So I wanted to know has anyone been in my position and how did you manage financially?

I understand you get SAAS and certain discretionary funds to help. But how do these things affect UC? So many questions! But did you find it manageable.

Any advice is greatly appreciated x

Hi maybe post this on Scotsnet as you’ll get more relevant advice I’m sure. Sorry can’t be much help I was a student nurse 22 years ago in Scotland but was childfree back then . All I remember is I got 20% off my council tax and £500 a month grant, I’m sure things have change now. I did have to work to top up money I did bank auxiliary work
