Help with premium bonds after death

DM has asked what she needs to do about DF’s premium bonds. DF died over 10 years ago. She’s not online at all, so I’ve had a look at the NS&I website to get an idea of what we need to do. It’s not clear whether after such a long time we will be able to claim the money that DF accumulated. DM can only recall one win, and a cheque being sent to DF over 40 years ago! Anyone else had to do this for a parent?

You should start by sending the death certificate to NS&I. They’ll come back in regard to requirements/process.

I donlt think you need to send a death certificate - being a government department they can check it themselves.

If it;s a small holding they'll probably just send the executor of the state the money (they did for me when I found some old ones of my dads), but if it;s more that (I think £5k) they'll want to see grant of probate or letters of administration.
