Universal credit delayed payment

I did a change of circumstances over a week ago through Universal credit, it asked me all the questions at the time and I still should've been entitled to a payment. They gave me an appointment on my usual payment date (today) which means the payment has been put on hold but at no point was it explained to me that would happen. The staff member has just left a message that I need the appointment for the payment to be generated so they were aware of this. I'm ok for essentials till about a week but my direct debits have bounced and I just think that's a rubbish thing to do to someone?

It’s because when you enter a change of circs it sort of goes into a “pending” state until it is reviewed so no payment is released but it is pretty bad form for them not to have explained that to you clearly at the time.
